The Soldier is the backbone of your squad. They have medium mobility and armor, and are designed for close to mid-range combat. Most soldiers use inverse, biped or wheel chasis with a med/heavy and generator. Typical soldier weapons include, but are not limited to:

Assault rifles-Medium range high accuracy weapons good for taking down targets while maintaining a more favorable distance.

Grenade launchers-Close range weapons with a high damage, causes some splash damage. Exlodes after coming into contact with another object, whether it is an enemy HOUND or not.

Machine guns-Light rapid-fire weapons with low damage, but they are useful when up against light fast-moving opponents.

Piles-Definitely one of the more diverse weapons in the game, piles are melee weapons that can deal out an incredible amount of damage, but you must be nearly touching the enemy mech. Piles are mostly used on lighter builds with wheel bases so they can get up to enemies quickly and dodge fire.

Bombs-Supposedly suitable for destroying HQ, but I've never seen anyone using them, and I can see why. Long reload, low ammo, not very high damage and completely useless against anything but HQs.

Rockets-Higher damage, lower accuracy and range. One of the more commonly used soldier weapons.

Mine dispensers-Places Mines on the ground, they can be seen whether you have a mine detector or not, mine detectors just make it a bit easier. Mines will detonate whether triggered by a friend or a foe, so make sure not to run over your own!

Shotguns- Close range, high damage weapons that spread out many shots in a cone-like shape.

In general, there are light and heavy soldier builds, heavier soldiers usually go for a more direct approach while lighter soldiers tend to make precise hit-and-run attacks.

Tactics:

Heavy Soldiers-As a heavy soldier, you should be going after enemy HOUNDs with your (hopefully) superior firepower and armor. If you see enemies attacking a lighter member of your team, such as a scout or your tactics commander, take the attacker down fast! If you can make a big enough nuisance of yourself, the enemy will often turn around and go for you, judging you to be the bigger threat and your ally can make his getaway or whatever he needs to do.

Light Soldiers-Be sneaky! You likely won't be able to take on heavily armed enemies by charging straight for them, so use a little brainpower. If you manage to get behind your enemy without them seeing you, take careful aim. You don't want to waste this perfect shot! Work with your tactics commander to evade enemies on patrol, and try to find enemy scouts or TC's, as taking them out can effectively cripple the entire enemy team.
