What do you think, we will see Online function (multiplayer battle) in the console version of Virtua Fighter 5?
Sega says NO only for the arcade version, who knows... 8)
I think that the online play would be perfect for the PERFECT beat em up.
I don't want to see people saying that DOA or the next Tekken and Soul Calibur are better than VF5 only because VF5 doen't have online play...

me myself love the idea. but it's the fact that DOA had bad bad issues with lag when it came to online play. i think the guys at virtuafighter.com had the right ideas for the online features. that you get extra things and make it more of a local kinda a thing. check the fourms at that site to see what i mean.

Yeah, I really can't see this happening due to lag and whatnot and how complex a lot of the moves are in VF. This is probably a reason why Sega aren't putting it on XBox 360.

When it comes too VF a half second of lag could lose you the match..
It would take from the brillance of the series.
When Consoles have VERY high connection speeds as standards
is when they'll give us VF online for consoles.

I would like it added when it come out in North America. I know there would be a good chance of lag but if it is added it would make the game even better.

NO!
After seeing what DOAonline was like (bearable... missing button presses + 0.5 -> 2second button press lag = 'pinch an atom' frustration!!!)... then adding the fact that VF series is all about your timing and reaction to certain moves... and you have a HELL of a bad game...
You see, DOAonline was fine. Its all about which move you and your opponent choose to throw at eachother, and as in Scizzors-paper-rocks, the better move wins. Loser gets knocked down, winner gets chance to reposition or down attack, loser gets up and it starts again.
Virtua Fighter is all about the sequences that players invent. I.e. about how you react to each piece of what you do to your opponent or your opponent does to you.
Now if you have a 0.5 -> 2 second lag, + the fact that some of your button presses may go missing in virtual space... you can't really pull off any real sequences anymore. So as a result, the game will become like a DOA with weak moves, WHICH IS WRONG AS A GAME!
So as some people have mentioned in this forum already, you need a VERY high connection speed if VF was going to be any good online.

you sir make no sence. doa is bad because is online? but what about the offline? i spent like 10hrs already on offline alone. VF will be as good even if it had laggy online. when do having an extra is bad for a game? i wish they implement this asap!!!!!

I meant to say that DOA4 is a good game, but due to the nature of the game, its predictable that the experience you have online won't differ too much to when you play offline. But its still a pain because some button presses don't register, and so you have to wait 0.5 seconds to see if what you pressed will happen.
Interupting and timing is a major element in VF, and a 0.5 - 2 second lag will screw up that and therefore the whole VF experience completely.
if you still don't understand... play Marvel vs Capcom online (e.g. WinKawaks arcade emulator) with a friend and get him to jump and HP (megaman fireball) you all day. Offline, its easy to block several fireballs and right as one fireball is blocked, launch a counterattack to stop megaman from fireballing you, but online, trying to time your attack with 0.5 to 2 seconds of lag is REALLY REALLY bad...

DOA and VF require perfect timing, so the need for no lag does matter in both games. In the DOA4 games I played online I rarly experienced lag. Know the people I beat comeplained and try to use it as an excuse instead of my just being better.
I bet that most of the people that said no are PS2 owners that know how bad their online service is.

I do not care for online play on Virtua Fighter 5 at all.
I do not care for online play on Virtua Fighter 5 at all.
I second that. I can hardly get a decent connection over "daily" worst ones overall of games like doa4, 3s, cvs2, ggxx and and etc. When I finally get a decent connection, someone either leave at the middle of the game or start yelling. Shooting games online, I get the less lag out of it, but people still mess with the connections to increase their chances of winning especially in Gears of war and Halo 2. Pitiful. Offline competition was always better for me. Fighting games isn't exactly something playable in retarded connections since it's obvious because of the genre or in any connection for that matter. However, I don't get how the people who want online, act like they are an authority of what in their opinion should be there when they aren't the developers.

Since they have two parts of the game. They should make the old engine Virtual Fighter 1-4 for online play, putting one of the games in virtual fighter 5. So they do not have to worry about having to change the Virtual fighter 5 game play. They can just leave Virtual Fighter 5 as it is. Playing online with Virtual fighter 2-4, not 4 evolution, that would be good enough for me

I'd rather be able to transfer and share my customized character with my friends through online, but not fight online. There are online features VF should have, but I do not feel that I need to fight random people on VF since lag connot yet be completely removed. Besides, fighting face-to-face is how it was meant to be played. All fighting games are.

once again if u dont like it u have the option 2 not play but that option should not be taken away besides some people will buy it for the sole purpose of playing online thats more sales and just seeing your friends play online will at least mke them curious about the game im not some noob who half plays the game so its credibility and what im saying true enough collision grabs and so on will be different but thats y u still play offline here and there 2 stay sharp but some people dont dig as deep into the game as a lot of us vets so they can still fully enjoy it on line at either rate it would help to strenthen the vf community so bring it on i say

so what if VF5 had does features plus the online vs mode? it still doesnt hurt the game. if you dont want online dont play online. its your option to play or not to play... i hate playing by myself i dont care if it has lag.
