View Full Version : Your Best Single Player Moments In AVP2 (The Game)?

Some of my favorite single player moments of AVP2:

I'm a huge Alien fan (and Aliens) so I'll stick to what worked for the original film, 1 on 1 human VS 1 Alien, which I find scarier.

1). Loved that part in (Find a way out of pods) where the predalien (Too bad it wasnt an Alien :P ) jumps down on you from the ceiling, it was pretty original to say the least. Than you had to walk on top of a bridge leading to the next level.

2). I Basically loved the whole single player experience, I just wished they had made the Aliens better, most of them ran at you on all 4's and had the same effects which got VERY repetitive. I hope Sega is planning on making them much more realistic as the original was in the first film. You want intelligent Aliens not just bugs running around mindlessly.

3). Best Setting: loved the one in the pods for sure, too bad there was no Alien stalking you, the avp2 original single player demo setting was awesome too, as well as the one in a factory and the one under the sewers.

4). I just wish a part of the story (In a new Aliens game) is on a huge, dark, industrial type of spaceship, that would be the ultimate setting.

The (movie) cut scenes were very well made too, I hope Sega or Gearbox use more of them and longer too for sure. Same goes for the storyline.

What were your favorite moments in single player?

The part with the predalien was alright I suppose, but my major problem with it is that you can kill very quickly and easily with just a few pistol rounds. :?

Well, my favorite experience is when I first got the game on Christmas. I was in the pods level where you've escaped from prison, and running around in the air vents with the iris seals. Well, there wasn't any alien activity of course, but I was cheating and had a smartgun to be ready for them just in case.

Which is right about when a Stretch and Screamer (which my brother got for Christmas) lying on my bed fell off and clambered to the floor, followed by screams from the blasted mummy. Of course, with the tension so high in game, when that happened, I let off about 75 rounds of the smartgun into the wall.

I laugh about it now, but back then I was a wimpy kid when it came to the AVP games, and I was too scared to play them right. Shoulda seen it. :)

Overall, I too enjoyed the single player game. I've played through it 3 or 4 times.

Meh, most of my best moments were in the multiplayer. For instance, I got 100 trophies as a Pred in a Pred vs Alien only game. *shrug*

Hmm... AVP2 was actually one of my very first FPshooters on PC. At the moment I bought the game, it wasn't on sale anymore in the big markets. I found it from a second-hand shop (after hunting the retail version for a year), and kept it in the box until I got a PC that could run it...

At last, I turned the lights off, opened the game and started to play the game as a marine.
After playing a few minutes on the first level - I had to change another T-shirt. It was really spooky.
If I had to tell the best moment in the game, I would say (surprise, surprise!) the predalien point.

Small effects are the best tools to achieve horror, not just giving the player a chance to shoot enemy up at the start.

Absolutely.

You should have played AvP1 like that. For some reason, it seemed much spookier to me when I first played it, but I was much older when I played AvP2 for the first time. In the first, the entire thing was much darker, and aliens frequently showed up with no warning as you rounded corners and such.

I kind of disliked them getting rid of the endless swarms of xenos in AvP2, save for a few specific points.

I have AvP1 too, but it works slow on my old PC, and it works too damn fast in my new one. I played it anyway, at the slow PC, and it sure felt nastier. Hmm... is there any chance of making it work on XP? I'll search for a way myself but if I don't find it please post a reply, if you know the trick.
I've by the way tried to buy all Alien games that I've met. Now I have Avp1-2 and Extinction (it's not too good). I am a big fan - there's ALIEN quadrilogy box on my shelf. And I actually saw the movies just a few years back.

That's strange. It worked fine on an old PIII 700, and identically to my current PIII 1Ghz. Might be a strange problem with your hardware or something.

I assumed that it would work fine on XP without special requirements (works on 2000), but if not you might have to use program compatibility set to Windows 98 or Windows 2000 to get it to work. I'm not sure if that's installed on XP by default though.

Oh well, I recently started playing through AvP2 again, and I've actually found that in a way it is more intense than AvP1. In the first one, you get used to Aliens being everywhere constantly, but in AvP2, strategic areas of no fighting makes it more intense when they do show up again.

I found the atmosphere more gloomy and dark in the first one though. Not sure why.

And I think that in AvP2, in level 1, where the aliens start swarming endlessly in your face in the end, that was ok too. Especially when you hadn't seen them too many in the past, at this point you feel the panic in your veins.

I remember that I tried using the compatibility mode for AvP1 before, but it didn't seem to work too well. Thanks anyway for the advice.

Entering the hive when playing the marine was really freaky.
You've got to be a nutjob first rate to enter a hive not considering going in alone.

I second this.

Whatever they do in next game, I hope it is not like avp2

I agree that there were some quirks with AVP2 (overly stylzed textures, strange things like the empress instead of a queen, chestbursting within an hour of being captive, and so on), but I don't see what the huge deal was.

I've played through AVP2 many more times than AVP1 (mostly because AVP1 is much harder and actually quite a bit more tense to play), but I liked both games a lot. I guess the ideal game would be somewhere between the two.

I'd like the single player story to be more in depth than AVP1 (more like AVP2), but I'd like them to have gameplay more like AVP1. Examples would include smartguns that have magazines instead of a single belt, single shot SADARs, continuously spawning aliens instead of preprogrammed ones, you know?

I liked some aspects of AVP2's gameplay though. Certain scripted encounters can add a lot to the experience. I also liked some things like the shoulder lamp and hacking device / cutting torch. I also liked being able to play a facehugger and having to go through the alien life cycle.

I don't know, there's a lot of things to consider...

I got the solution for how should avp3 be for the making xD, and it,s so simply like this : DooM3

Favorite single player experience? Hmm . . . growing up as an Alien, playing through all the life cycles. Getting that first head bite (CRUNCH!) was the best.

As a Pred, losing all your stuff and having to get it all back, fighting off a few Aliens with the spear thing. Leaping down like and angel of death from the super tall trees on an unsuspecting synthetic and mauling him with the spear. Nailing marine heads to walls.

Perfectly landing a really long pounce with the Alien. Getting a headbite without taking damage. Fighting back from the brink of death after getting torched.

Actually having to use the plasma torch was pretty cool, as was having to use the hacking rig to get through some doors. The rest of the marine campaign was pretty run of the mill FPS . . . i.e. boring. Use big guns to blast everything in sight (Yawn).

Running back to the APC after you leave the Hive was a great moment.
I just didn't buy the 'lone-wolf' crap that was going on with the Marine.
