How do you get your parts online?

Do you have to earn your parts in offline mode or do they give you all of the parts in online mode?

I think i read that you can use all the parts online but for one player, you have to earn them.

Don't take my word for it, though.

I at least know that you cannot get ALL of the parts online.

You may or may not be able to get any, but if you want 100% of the parts available in the game, then yes you'll have to play single player :) Which I kinda like

when you are changing your mechs parts and weapons, you have a certain number of parts available for purchase, you can equip anything to use for FREE in TEST or SIMULATION, (sim = arena) but to use it in story mode or multiplayer, you must buy it... to unlock more weapons to choose from, complete chapters and sims.
