Yesish.

I personally think they have, like, slits in their heads that recieve light patters and possibly even different Spectrums, and those in turn identify certain things, in a way, 'seeing'. Hence the incredibly nightvision and the Facehuggers ability to sense the resperitory system of any living creature.

just my little Philosophy.

H.R. Giger himself said the Alien had no eyes.

H.R. Giger Interview, Starlog Magazine, September 1979, Issue 26 Article: Behind the Alien Forms By David Houston
"In the first design for the alien, he had big black eyes. But somebody said he looked too much like a . . . what do you call it . . . a Hell's Angel; all in black with the black goggles. And then I thought: It would be even more frightening if there are no eyes! We made him blind! Then when the camera comes close, you see only the holes of the skull. Now that's really frightening. Because, you see, even without eyes he always knows exactly where his victims are, and he attacks directly, suddenly, unerringly. Like a striking snake."

Randey Stradley also states "There’s something really compelling about a silent, deadly creature that you can’t reason with and you can’t even make eye contact with because it has ho eyes. It really is completely alien. It pushes that basic button."

Only my opinion of course but I would say no they do not have eyes in the true definition of the word eye and they also have no 'visible' eyes. There are two sides to this question; eyes and the act or faculty of apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind; cognition; understanding. (perception in other words). Eyes and perception are two totally different things.

Eyes; no. Perception? I would speculate they have a complex system for communication as they are community based (When the queen communicates with them to fall back as Ripley puts the flamethrower to the eggs in Aliens) and a system for sight that is beyond human understanding of biology. Some sort of smell, sound, sonar type or even like a shark; can detect small amounts of electricity from a living animal. I still like to think its beyond our understanding. I would be interested to know an Aliens' 'consciousness' then we could get a better understanding of its senses as consciousness is purely a collection of a number of biological sensory devices.

how about a mixture of eye-sight, smelling, feeling and hearing hmm?

mkay, in avp2 you had such a mixture seeing and smelling?
in the movies seeing wasn`t stressed more smelling, remember a3 when ripley was preggy with that queen and the bugger "smelled" her, refused to eat her?

in a2 they had shown exellent senses, after the marines used flamers in dis heat-exchange thingy....

I suggest a look at the Anchorpoint essays for detailed hypothesis on the Alien's anatomy

While people are quick to say, "I see no eyes, therefore, no eyes" (the irony), I personally agree with Giger, who designed it without eyes. I like to believe they have a different sort of sense. I believe they can hear, hence all the hissing, screeching and growling. I don't think they can smell, as I have seen no nose or smelling apparatus. Nor can they taste, seeing as ho they have no tongue (the inner mouth thing isn't a tongue, it's an inner mouth thing). I choose to instead believe that they have a unique sense that we don't or can't understand. Sort of like snakes sensing heat. Maybe they can sense some kind of unknown harmless radiation that all things emit. Sort of like echolocation, but with radiation instead of sound. Maybe it's both.

I think that the aliens use there sense of smell to hunt down their victims as in aliens vs predator they are still able to kill a predator when he is invisible.

No. They use pheromones to sense their prey. Every species emits different pheromones (seen in AvP2 as blue around the humans, green around the preds, etc.).

In AvP2, sight was implemented, because how could you play an FPS game with your character totally blind?
