I have just posted part 1 of 2 of my video series on DC Deathmatch & FPS games. I love this sub-genre, and the DC was hands down the best home console for it. Though there were a lot to chose from, I decided not to include flight & space sim games (Deep Fighter, Starlancer, Aerowings 2 etc..) or third person adventure games (Tomb Raider, MDK 2, Max Steel etc...) as I think those branch out into different sub-genres. Regardless, I'd love to hear your feeback! Were you a fan of any of these games? Did you play much online back in the day?

Hi guys, been gone for a while.

Some history: A few years ago my friend gave me a broken SEGA Genesis model 2 with a model 2 SEGA CD attached for free. To him it was broken junk so I asked if I could have it (thinking that I could try to fix it at least).

Anyway, a week ago I finally decided on fixing them. First I looked up some information and found that a common problem with model 2 GEN consoles was that the soldering for the power supply and AV ports gets cold solder so I reinforced it and now it works wonderfully!! (So I got a part to work)

In prep to fix my SEGA CD, I bought some fuses (that I'd researched was the primary fix for no power SEGA CD units). Today, the fuses came in the mail (you guy them in packs of 5 which works well since I cut one wrong). Anyway, on the second fuse, I put it in correctly and my SEGA CD turned on!! However, then I was told there was no CD in the console...even though there was (tried a music CD and a game, of course Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch).

I noticed that the disc was indeed spinning but the lens eye thing wasn't moving from the top of the device. Noticing this, I took out the drive and looked at the gears. Not sure what to do (and it looked dirty), I used air to spray it, which loosened it up. Then I lubed up the rod it moves on, brushed a little debris from the gears, but...the gear would get caught sometimes. I thought, this is weird, so I tried turning it and stared at the gears for a while til I noticed a few spokes that were not straight and that was the gear problem!! I took a flat head screw driver and kinda bent it back and now it moves smoothly.

Feeling good about everything, I put the disc in and...same result, but this time, the eye moved (to the bottom). I figured it might've needed an adjustment for the laser, but I haven't found a solution (the eye always moves to the bottom now).

Is replacing the eye my only solution?

For those of you on the fence with these things, the results are actually pretty darn good from the video-only look I got of it (at college at the moment so I can't hear what he's saying), and it retails for ~$50. So if you want a quick-and-dirty SD to HD conversion, this is the way to go. Obviously not as good as the XRGBs or DVDOs.

EDIT: Scratch that, looks like it may have been a fluke-
The guy told me it worked fine.. Well, I found a power cord to use but the system is not wanting to turn on. I press the power button, the power light on the system comes on for about a second and flashes off. I tried a couple other cables and get the same result. I don't know much about electronics, circuit boards, etc. but I opened the system up to see if I could see anything wrong with the power supply board. From what I could tell it looks ok, but I'm not sure. While I had the top cover off I tried turning the system on and I could see that the little exhaust fan kicks on for that one second as well..
