Thread: Error 102 - Somethings Not Right

Does your power at home go out sometimes for a few seconds? I had connection problems a while back with my computer and gamecube because of that. Usually after the power goes out the cable or dsl modem would start up the same time the router does. Usually your have to start them up in order. Start by unpluging your modem and router for about 30 secs to a minute. Then plug in the following in the correct order. Plug the modem in and wait for a minute then plug your rouger in and wait a minute then turn on your gamecube and see what happends. I also think something was going on with the server so im not sure. Try it out and see.

Trust me... that isn't an issue (and I do it in that order anyway). That power recently flickered out while I was online before... luckily is was just a flicker so the game safely D/Ced. After the power came back on later that night (it went off around 5 minutes after the D/C) I managed to reconnect with no problems.

I contacted one of the admins here and here is his reply to this type of connection issue:

I had sometimes encountered issues with connecting to GC. I was usually able to resolve it by power cycling the router and modem. Something to try would be to remove the power on the router and modem for approximately 2 minutes (just to be safe). While theses devices are offline, remove the GC network adapter and power on the machine, wait for the boot screen and power down again. Re-insert the network adapter and plug the Router and Modem back in. Wait for each device to come back online and start the game normally.

This is just based on personal experience, and it could be a larger issue with a user's netwrok connection or ISP. I would contact GC technical support and see what sorts of issues can be resolved if the above fix/workaround does not work.

Default try Reattaching the bba or dial up modem

i resolved this issue with reinserting the modem to the gamecube ( the gcn power was off mind you ) it seems even if the modem is a fraction of an inch " loose " it will not allow you to connect.. it worked for me. and of course i gave it some time ( a la reconfigure ) of provider within the gcn options. hope this helps.

Okay things have gotten fairly stable and I've figured out a pattern. If it fails to connect to the point where the "Connecting to DNS server" message appears for around half a second then 102s, it means something has frigged up. I then have to wait 30-40 minutes before I can try again. 95% of the time, after I wait this amount of time WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO CONNECT, it will work on the first or second try after that time period. That is still highly annoying, but on the bright side, I've figured out a pattern that seems to be working.

It's like after I try to connect twice it just gives up and decides to do absolutely nothing for the next 30-40 minutes.

I'm currently having the same issue... I can't connect at all, getting that same bastage error no.102. I've tried powercycling my modem and router, as well as reinserting the BBA. However, the error I'm getting is showing nothing about a DCHP or anything, it just simply says "You could not connect to the server. Please check that your provider settings are correct before connecting."

I used to be able to connect without issues, and this just begun happening recently. Once in a blue moon I can connect, but me and my friend would like to play as soon as we can, and not have to wait around for hours on end, hoping this garbage will clear up.

I will try to get in contact with admin about this problem and see what they can suggest. Sorry for any inconvenience this issue is causing.

Yes, I as well have been getting 102's all day. I've played the GCN version (online) for about a year, and haven't had a problem until today when I reactivated my account. I've tried several different procedures with my router and BBA , with no success as of yet.

I've read all the other posts regarding this matter as well, and have yet to come across a solution. And here I was looking forward to playing PSO after all these months .

I have the exact same problem as Mist; it tries to connect to the DNL server, but after about...three or four seconds it gives me the 102 error.

I will continue to attempt to connect to the network, but if you find out what the problem is, it would be greatly appreciated.

My problem has never ended. It's still bad. These last couple of days it's been particularily bad. 2 and a half hours with no luck last night and now I've been at it for 2 more hours this afternoon while only getting 102 errors.

I have changed a bit though. I'm currently using a PPPoE service now instead of DHCP and I HATE it so much, but thanks to my router, all my internet devices including the Gamecube think it is still DHCP because the router stays logged into my PPPoE service at all times.

All I know is, I am sick and tired of paying full price for something that works around 1 tenth of the time I want to play and I've already issued a complaint to Sega about this foolishness. When it won't even connect when I'm plugged directly into the modem and using PSO's PPPoE support feature then something is terribly wrong. I've been being driven insane by these 102 errors for nearly 3 months and after many calls to Sega, and several posts on different PSO forums NOTHING has made a difference. This is just pathetic.
