    I don't think you'd really want either. Defenders need to be able to outrange other hounds, since you don't have much speed. You're better off with rifles or cannons.

    If you had to pick, I would select shotguns, but not use them much. Shotguns may not do the continuous damage of a machinegun, but its a lot easier to tag a scout with a good shotgun blast than with a machinegun. For anything else, I would be using a heavier weapon, such as a cannon.

    MG vs Shotguns, on a high stability base I'd pick... cannons. The only time I use MG or Shotties is with low stab bases (wheels, hover or biped). I spent all day throwing my CMD against the AI and, on a wheeled base, I found that 4x double barrel shotties did far better in all situations where mobility is key.

    That being said, most defender builds aren't about mobility, are they. MG would be better for mid-range peppering and trash cleaning. I wouldn't ever use either as my main damage source if I could get cannons or even rockets instead.

    I'd put like 2SG's and then have alot more MG's than SG, but not only that you should vary from different parts then that!!... Like put along range gun on and a couple Mid-range weapons too cause you dont wanna have a 100% close-range defender.

    MGs are sweet. Ammo for days and its dirt cheap.

    I dont use either of them. I am using cannons and missles. I figure MGs take to long though they do give you a lot of ammo, which is nice.

    MGs not only have tons of ammo. Add on the fact that so many rounds are hitting the mech that their heat is rising rapidly. Keep someone under MG fire for 20-30 seconds and they'll start to overheat and not only will they be damaged by the rounds themselves, but everything will start taking heat damage. It's a great psychological move.

    I switch around, I used to use shotguns,
    Lots of power and It freaks them out when all their warning lights go off at once. Then I used MGs, They lasted longer and were easier to use without the guncom.

    shotguns n' rocks. the shotguns work like rocks without the aiming problem, the rocks worlk liek the shots but with more range and damage. they compliment eachover. Plus 4 SG-101's can actualy deliver a cloud of 24 x520 ke at the same time into a space the size of an armour plate

    If your a defender I'd use SG's. Put with a decent set of treads and only grouped in 3's (2's if you use the 2 shot ones) you can be very deadly. You just find a good hiding spot and wait for someone. Then you go to town. Usually what I did was if they weere using cannns I just blew them off with SG's and Missile Packs. QC's aren't so scary when they have no guns.

    I didn't like SG's when I first started playing, but now I do like them, but you need to be close to use them. The hound I have them on now is my Urbanator since most city fights have to be fought close range (unless you are just HVG'ing one another)

    Design adapted slightly from this pic, but he runs most of the toughest parts and if I see you thats 12 of the highest powered rockets headed your way, quickly followed by a salvo of 4 SG100's (The doubles have too little ammo for me)
