Default There may be new Laws in lieu of Battlefront 2's Loot Box system

And you can thank EA for allowing this to happen.

Hawaii Rep. Chris Lee came to the attention of gamers a couple of weeks ago when he posted a video on YouTube calling out loot boxes, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 in particular, a game he described as "a Star Wars-themed online casino." In a new video that he put up today, Lee laid out a more detailed plan for curtailing "predatory gaming practices," and explained how people opposed to loot box mechanics can help make it happen.

The video lays out the basics of what Lee has in mind, which includes prohibiting the sale of videogames containing "gambling mechanisms" to anyone under the age of 21. That restriction would cover any situation in which players are purchasing a "percentage chance" to get an in-game item, rather than the item itself, and would apply not just to games sold at retail but also those available via digital distribution channels like Steam and GOG—a relevant point because ESRB ratings are not mandatory for digital storefronts.
You can read more about it at: http://www.pcgamer.com/us-lawmaker-w...-loot-box-law/

So mainly, thanks to EA's handling of Loot Boxes, there's a threat of regulation from Hawaii of all states. I do find it amusing because they could have avoided it and take a page from Overwatch(Even if I am against loot boxes).

Another thing, the part I bolded also points to the fact that Digital Storefronts do not need any ESRB ratings. And to be honest, I would like for that to happen to Steam, mainly if it means getting some quality control in their storefront(With all those crappy games being pushed out). Considering how badly the Steam Direct is being handled, I'll take it if it means less asset flips and more good quality games.

In the end, EA makes things right for everyone. Time to apologize to EA, OP. Far as I'm aware, EA didn't make Amiibos, and there is nothing more evil than amiibos

I dunno. After what EA just did, I think they deserve the ridicule that the internet is throwing at them.

Thank you for reminding me. Here's your present

On a side note: Hawaii is very 100% anti-gambling. No Casinos(Online or Offline), no Poker for money, no sports betting, no betting on bingo, no lottery scratchers, nothing. The reason why one of their representatives is calling out EA is because the Loot Box craze reminds them of gambling, and the low chance of getting certain items and/or characters. The other state with an Anti-Gambling law is Utah.
