Default AoI being a "full game" = FALSE ADVERTISING!

    Be forewarned.

I'm not sure about the PS2 version, yet (I don't own THAT), but as far as the PC version goes, all that stuff about it being a "full game" is a lie.

To play Ambition of Illuminus (AoI), you don't need to own PSU, first -- THAT is correct..

    ...BUT...

..By full game, you think it means you get to play as Ethan in one episode, and then, play your own character in the 2nd offline, and the 3rd in Network Mode, right?

    NOPE.

They took the Ethan story OUT, and all of the Episode 2 stories that were online until AoI came out make up AoI's story mode. Basically, the only thing you transfer from PSU are your characters from Extra Mode. Your Extra Mode character from PSU is what you play as in AoI. X_X

    So, what does that mean?

That means that, for whatever reason, if you ever wanted to play Ethan's story again, you'd need to hold on to your copy of PSU and download it into your comp. Basically, you have 14 gigs of data of two different games that should've been just one, but for whatever stupid reason, ISN'T.

    FALSE ADVERTISING.

Ambition of the Illuminus is a sequel product to the original game. So yes, the Episode 1 content is not present in this release, but as a sequel expansion product it is still a full game.

    * Offline story mode- play the new story mode mission that you may have missed if you had not played online.
    * Offline extra mode- transfer your Extra mode character from PSU original
    * Online mode contains all previous content with new additions.

I don't think it's false advertising at all. Your expectations may have been different, but I'm not entirely sure what these were based on.

Well, what I was thinking when it was advertised as "no other discs required" right on the box, I assumed that meant I didn't have to hold on to my copy of PSU if I wanted to play Ep.1 again. I mean, I thought it was gonna be like PSO Episodes I and II.

I mean, if it wasn't going to include Ethan's story, then why wasn't it emphasized in any of the info I looked at at PSU's website? They had me thinking I could toss the old game away, if I wanted. Now, because I haven't even beaten PSU's story mode, yet, I have to have two whole games on my PC before I beat it. Dunno why both stories couldn't have been packed in for the expansion. Not everyone will play only Network Mode, and I'm sure a lot of people don't think having 15 gigs worth of what is essentially the same game (the older version of which, its online mode becomes obsolete once you play the newer one's, which makes it all the more like deadweight) is very practical, but whatever. I don't feel like grumbling about it. x.x

This forum was where I originally posted this thread. No one moved it from anywhere else. I'm on topic here. I posted here for everyone's benefit, and because, the people on the PSU boards can be incredibly unpleasant , rude, and thin-skinned when it comes to criticism or questions about THEIR FAVORITE GAME. I don't feel like being flamed for my supposed "n00b"-ness by 200+ strangers.

So if YOU buy AoI, you can keep my OP in mind. >.>

Ethan was a dork anyway. >__> And 15 GB? That's more than the entirety of Vista takes up, isn't it? And like having PSO:BB installed about ten times or something. >> (Not going to look at how large PSO:BB is; if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.)

Uhm, I don't see why you would need to have PSU: Ambition of the Illuminus installed if you were only playing Episode I on the original PSU installer. That would seem pretty needless if you weren't doing any online. Still, not really a false advertising issue, you just have the first offline content on your machine, and the second sequel content on your machine.

Regarding the Phantasy Star Universe site, two pages outline the story content and introduce the versions:

    http://www.phantasystaruniverse.com/game_intro.php

    http://www.phantasystaruniverse.com/game_story.php

I don't think either page states that Episode I is included in the new version, and I'm not sure why you would assume otherwise. If this was a question, you could present it to our support staff in through a ticket in our new FAQ system:

    http://www.sega.com/support/index.ph...os=tnav_strip&

This eliminates any confusion or false assumptions made about the product.

Before the psu forums were up this forum was just the same way, matter of fact there's alot of forums that way. The only reason this forum isn't like that is because hardly anyone uses it anymore, so the people who still do post here know each other in game and some outside of it.
It may be unpleasent but that's something you have to deal with with alot of forums.
When this forum was really active, it was just the same way as the psu forums are now. People got called noobs for asking questions about pso, and people got angry when some gave it a bad crtitcism. Rudeness on the forums is something you're going to have to learn to deal with because it's something that's very common on alot of public forums.

1: Ethan, yeah, nobody liked him anyway. He was your typical beef-headed main character. Name one actual "friend" that Ethan had. NONE. If you DID like him, tell me where you live so I can smack you.

2: Not only is the game "incomplete" in the sense that you mentioned (what with not being able to play as Ethan) but also the game is currently lacking most of the "old PSO" things it was expected to have.

(I'll admit though...De Rol Le is a pretty fun fight, and Grass Assassins actually look intimidating now.)

Basically, Ragol hasnt been implemented yet. If you ever wanted to see it in PSU, you'd have to go online, and you'd have to wait till it was actually released.

3: 15 GB? This might explain why my comp keeps crashing. I'm going to call in the smart people to take a look at my comp...

    ...that means you, Sarah

4: The story is lazily strung together, and people only really complete it for the NPC characters who can run around with you so you can be antisocial. To those that only buy it to play offline...uh...have fun with that >_>

There's my two cents, probably not even worth that much.

I don't think that's true. It's just you guys. I've been on plenty of Usenet forums -- I've been on Final Fantasy, Robotech, and Gundam newsgroups, and AOL anime and Atheist message boards over the past 9 years. Maybe it's a generational or gamer thing, but you guys were hella rude and horrible to new people throughout most of last year; for the most part, I refused to post here, and give myself that kind of grief. It has nothing to do with "something I have to deal with," it's you people and the johnny-come-lately moderating.

And of course, things are more pleasant now because all the rude people went to the PSU boards -- all the nice people not nearly as disdainful of "noob"-ness stayed behind. x.x

BB's about 750 megs. PSU and AoI together are about..20 times that? XD

Yeah, Gov, you were the reason I started this thread to begin with -- it looks like you're expressing similar sentiments to what I had last year when PSU came out. o-o. Yeah, I expected not to see a lot of PSO stuff in there (that wasn't required, really, more of a "throwing the bone" thing to the "I just want more PSO" folks ("oh, YOU WANT PSO?! HERE.. T_T" -- the item and special lobby transports, for one thing, were far more needed than anything else.. XD). But, yeah.

Clumsy, the problem I have with PSU story mode data not being included with AoI is that, everyone knows that PSU's story mode wasn't nearly as well-regarded (*ahem*) as the Network Mode -- fair enough. HOWEVER, if anyone ever wanted to play that story, you know what they have to do, now, as far as the PS2 and PC versions go?

They have to go hunt down PSU before it'll probably go out-of-print by late next year, or something. If they want the PC version, they can't buy it, because old software has a far shorter shelf-life than even that of console games, so they'll probably torrent it, instead. Some people did that already with AoI, but I was honest enough to go shell out $50+ to order it with overnight shipping. x.x

My point, being, AoI isn't really its own game as much as it is an update upon network mode, with Ep. 2 brought to offline to play. It's like telling us if we don't need Winamp 6 (or whatever version they're on now -- 5.5, right?), but if we want to play .ogg again, only 5.5 will support it, so we have to go download that. Why couldn't the new Winamp support all the previous file extensions?

I looked all over the PSU website, except for probably those FAQs you posted (Haven't read the links, yet...), and there was overhype about the Acro- classes, and stuff added, not stuff left behind like Episode 1 Story Mode. ._.
