    Default Menu Fail

    Ok, here're the problems I'm having;
    Install says it takes 8.4gb - Box says 9gb
    I have 9.8gb free on program drive, but after install, it says I still have 5.6 free.
    That's not actually the problem - I think... It might have something to do with it.

    My problem is that I tell the game to run, it pops up the pretty menu with with Story Mode, Network Mode, etc. I select Network Mode... It closes that menu and does nothing. I select Story Mode... It closes that menu and does nothing. I have no idea why.

    Here's the system report I was given with the dxdiag run thing;

    Time of this report: 10/25/2006, 17:18:43
    Machine name: WRAITH
    Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 (2600.xpsp1.020828-1920)
    Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
    System Manufacturer: INTELR
    System Model: AWRDACPI
    BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
    Memory: 1024MB RAM
    Page File: 271MB used, 2190MB available
    Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
    DxDiag Version: 5.03.0001.0904 32bit Unicode

    My card's a Radeon 9800, 256mb (which it doesn't say up there?)

    I've been eagerly awaiting this game and even have my membership paid already, but can't even get the game to load. Grumble. Any suggestions?

    users have reported that installing DirectX off the cd fixes this issue, please check and see if this fixes your problem as well.

    Maybe you need to delete some stuff off your Program drive and get alittle bit more gb. After that, try installing the game again. Good luck,I hope it'll work! ^_^

    Edit: Cuz I find it kind of strange that when you have 9.8gb free, and you used 9gb, I dont see how you have 5.6 left... that's why you should leave alittle more room in your program drive and installing the game again. Xp

    I've experienced this problem myself. I thought all the menu items were defaulting as exit since only Official Site, Options, and Exit worked. Clumsy's advice did the trick. Properties after Direct X Update from DVD:

    I don't know how critical it could be, but the box requirements say Service Pack 2 or higher. My Windows CD comes with it whether I want it or not . But as a last resort if nothing else works, give it a try. It's the first (and possibly the only thing) you'll see at Windows Update until that's installed.

    Hey... you guys rock. Seriously.
    Fixed the prob perfectly.
    Funny, the difference that a few decimal points in a version can make, eh?

    Today was release day for my area and we were worried that we might not be able to play (my GF and I). In fact, just got back from the local comp-shop with a new vid card to fix her problem (GeForce MX was the prior - Ugh).

    I appreciate the quick response very much.

    Edit: On the SP2 thing... I know I have SP2. It's saying 1 for reasons unknown to me. Needed it for another game I was playing (D&DO beta wouldn't run without it). Also in response to Lunarius, yeah. I tanked UT2004 (haven't played it in months anyways) which gave me an extra 5.4gb, just incase.
