Another Console Player
Cable receiver manufacturer Scientific-Atlanta is reportedly interested in joining the console game market. According to the company's CEO chief executive James McDonald, Scientific-Atlanta have begun working with partners in the industry to develop a new console. "We have a partner we are working with who has 250 engineers in Europe writing software for the Explorer platform for games," McDonald said at the Morgan Stanley Semiconductor & Systems.
As for whether a Scientific-Atlanta console could compete with the likes of Microsoft and Sony, McDonald made the company's intentions clear by saying, "I can give players the same performance you get out of other game boxes. There is no question that games is one market we will be in." Specifics regarding the company's plans, proposed platform specifications and software remain undisclosed.
On a personal note: I think this will fail along with anything new not coming from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.
