Default OK, this is really ticking me off.

"GameGuard error: Please try again, or close any problems that are causing a conflict."

Back again, this time to apparently haunt ONLY ME, because I've checked both here and PSOW and seen no topics that relate to this.

I don't get it. It's as if I've done something to deserve something like this...>> And if there is something I've done to deserve this, IDK what it is. (I seriously doubt I have. >>)

Do you run Zone Alarm? When I had PSOBB I could not play it at all with Zone Alarm INSTALLED.

    I don't use ZoneAlarm.

WHat happens is, GameGuard just blinks for a second (it shows up then immediately closes), and shows the error on PSU.

I hope that helps solve the problem.

Well it's kinda hard to say which program is causing the error since we have no idea what's installed in your rig. Your best option (i think) would be closing tasks from the task manager and see if that helps. Last solution would be installing XP again.

If I ever had to re-install my operating system to play a game, the game would never be played until I had to reinstall my o/s for a real reason....

No, it's not just you...I got this for Christmas, actually. At first it wouldn't launch because of one of the Japanese GameGuard errors ("GameGuard is active. Please try again later, or after restarting.") but closing most of my Firefox tabs fixed it. Now the error is back and...it doesn't.

(I really hate to make my first post here something like this.)

Try ending all of the non-essential background processes from the task manager (alt+ctl+del) before you play the game. Sounds like GG is conflicting with an program/process on your comp.

I would if they didn't interfere with my computer running. ._.

Just a question, since I've never tried closing those processes-if I log off and log back on, will the processes run again?

    And which should I close?

If you log off and log back in they will probably start back up again. If you would like to know which ones to end, simply open Task Manager and google each process. i.e. If you Google vsmon.exe you should see a few resources telling you what it does, if it is a threat and if it is essential or not. Just do that for each of your processes.

If you are familiar with msconfig, you can stop some of the undesired process from starting at boot up.

I have had to re-install windows to use several different applications at different times. This is the fault of Windows, not the game/program I was trying to run-- windows can, at times, corrupt it's own registry, or possibly some sort of spyware, etc. got picked up at some point.

my point is, sometimes you just gotta re-install and start clean, because the first program that shows an issue isn't the problem... it's the symptom of an issue that says you have a "real reason" to install again.
