The report states that EA's faith in mobile gaming is "misplaced," and that its focus on the system will be "barely profitable." Due to the predicted failure of the mobile game industry, our boy Mikey states that products like the PSPgo and DSi will maintain their niche in the market, "without significant cannibalization" from mobile phones.

He also said that the Playsation games will be worth 31% of the market.

It's funny how that page is set up. Right underneath the article about mobile gaming being a fad, there's a link to a rumor story about Sony making a phone to rival the iPhone. It's possible. Sony already do make phones after all. But yea, I can only rely on that Patcher guy a little more than half the time.

Anyway, I do think mobile gaming on cell phones will probably die down from the current surge, if the medium fails to advance without raising prices too much; but the gameboy has long since proven that dedicated handhelds are here to stay, & Japanese PSP & DS sales prove it.

He doesnt get paid to make predictions. He also doesnt get paid to answer console war questions for fanboys to pick apart. He gets paid being a financial analyst. Thats it.

Gaming on cell phones I can see failing (example: N-Gage), but there's no way in hell handhelds are dying anytime soon. The GameBoy in all of its incarnations has sold millions, games like the handheld Poke'mon games have sold (and still are selling) millions, and the handheld gaming market is far stronger in Japan than the console market, in part because (IMHO) of the traditional, extremely busy lifestyle of the average Japanese person that spends more time out in public than at home.

Now where's my damn paycheck?
