My experience without an anti virus is very different, the laptop lasted 3 months before the system was so corrupt it could not be reinitiated and had to have a new hd, still using the same laptop 3 years on and not one issue thanks to bit defender so can only go by what i've seen and experienced

Use ubuntu if you are scared of viruses xD I LIKE formating my computer every 2/3 months, so I don't even care about viruses/antiviruses :P
