I voted yes, but I do agree with having to restart if you abandon alliance. there's always the option to leave.

You can join alliances without losing anything.Is this a bug? It seems like an awfully big punishment to join someone's alliance!Just stay in your existing 1-man starter alliance and then look for other alliances to join (via rankings). You can apply here and they can accept you, and you won't lose any resources, buildings, etc.

There is a bug (?) that you can't join other alliances. I had it for the first few days. When I clicked on join it said: "You cannot join any more alliances" allthough I was just in my One-Man-starteralliance.
Today I suddenly could join other alliances.
hmmmm, cuz I just had someone join my alliance, and when they did, they lost all their buildings and this is the first alliance they have joined.

Hm, not to my knowledge. Are you sure whoever joined your alliance didn't accidentally abandon their own alliance first before applying? My guess is this may be what happened.
yes, they did abandon their own alliance, but in my understanding, if it's the first alliance you get when you start playing the game, it shouldn't cause you to lose everything, otherwise, no one would ever join an alliance. Unless there is a way around it?
Ah, that makes sense then. What happens is that you are essentially put into your own one-man alliance, which is just like any other alliance, except that there are no penalties for joining into a different alliance. If you abandon, though, it will warn you that you will lose all your resources, and this will apply to the one-man starter alliance too.
