Shinobi?

How many Shinobi games are there? I'm new to the series and only have the new Shinobi for the nintendo 3DS. How long has Shinobi been around?

There's quite a few. The series has been going since 1987. Naturally with such a long running series some of the games are great, some aren't.

It's hard to give an exact number on how many games there are since some of the ports of the earlier games play entirely differently from each other and one particularly bad GBA game shares its name (and nothing else) with one of the best on the Mega Drive.

I might be missing one or two, but I think these are the most important ones.

There is also Shinobi Legions on (Sega Saturn), Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (if this one counts, SMS) and a scattered version on GBA (not very good) most of the other ones are at least 7 to 10 rated.
