Default Bad pitching or bad manager?

I'm losing 0-1 throughout the game, my starter T Hanson comes out after the 7th and MR DJ Carrasco comes in the 8th inning.

I score a run in the top of the 9th, tie game.

Go into the bottom of the 9th and DJ Carrasco is STILL pitching. He loads runners on 1st and 2nd then my SU Veras comes in, he gives up a double, end of the game.

Now, I know it's sour grapes and I hate losing a close game, but why didn't my closer come in?

If my closer gave up the game, so be it, we did our best as a team, but when my MR is in a tied game in the 9th inning we are not doing our best in the game. We are doing the dumbest thing in baseball.

I know it's a game, but dang that was irritating.

No pitching settings were set. No rely on reliever or starter etc. All my manager settings were on hitting, bunting, stealing.

1st: Yes. Definitely irritating when it doesn't work out. Ask Grady Little about Pedro Martinez (or don't).

2nd: I'm not certain if there are hard and fast rules the management uses, but I do know that if your Managerial options are centered for leaving SP/RP in, the computer is more likely to leave them there until they give up a lead.

The AI has to be kind of conservative, for the most part. There are 7 pitchers available for relief but if too many are used, you can quickly find yourself in the 11th or 12th inning on your last pitcher. In that case, the CPU essentially has to leave them in -- the game can't currently (that I am aware of) use SP as RP. So to balance running into that situation it tries to spread out RP a bit more, especially if you have the AI set for the middle option. Does that make sense?

Edward, thanks for taking the time to answer that for me.

I have since changed my settings to short relief. I hope that helps.

That would be something that I would like to see if a reliever has to go 3+ innings. I can only recall once i had that happen to me, and it was within the last season or two. The reliever went 5 2/3 innings, but still got the win. It would make more sense to put in the SP who is the farthest away from starting.

Jesus Christ guys, stop complaining please. Armando Gallaraga no hit one of the best offenses of the game. So did Dallas Braden, and Edwin Jackson, nobody saw those coming, stop complaining and play the game.
