I like how almost nobody likes Silver, Sega have successfully created one of the most useless characters ever.

Silver deserves to be scrapped. I think Sega will do it sooner or later - hopefully sooner. Patience is a virtue.

This is true. The question is: Does Sega itself realize this? I feel confident that they do.

I don't know. Big the Cat is still around.

Hardly. He was only in Generations as a trophy, with his only prominent appearance before that being in a mediocre spin off.

The point is, if Sega won't get rid of Big, who's hardly shown up, then they certainly won't get rid of Silver, who had an arguably good boss fight in Generations.

Not getting rid of him means nothing though if nothing is done with him. And as fun as the boss fight was, it doesn't solve the problem that he still literally has no role in the series, I mean what's his purpose, why is he here, why should we care about him as a character at all? Even the Chaotix have more of a role than he does, even if it is a supporting one.

The bottom line is; the likes of Silver or Big can stay around as long as they want, but if nothing is to make them likable, it kind of defeats the purpose and makes them filler for far more interesting characters.

To be quite fair here, I think that Sonic Team is afraid of doing anything major with him at the moment, considering the fans don't know when to let go of past failures and be more accepting of things that they experiment with. If they were given a good chance, they'd certainly give him a good role, but they don't want to right now because of the stigma associated with 2006 that really needs to vanish entirely.

It's a good point. That's why I always clamor for better writing in this franchise, even if it may never come.

If they succeed in making him a good character and giving him an actual purpose, what's there to complain about? I mean are people seriously going to complain about making a terrible character good? If so, then we should question the logic of people who think that way.
