Thread: Don't cancel yakuza in the west

we will have to just wait and see, but i - like almost everyone here - am a huge fan of these games, its easily my favourite series being released today, and it would be a tragedy if western fans are no longer able to enjoy these games in english.

its seems the stumbling block for sega in bringing these games west is just the sheer amount of text contained within the game. translation is expensive since it so time consuming. weighing up these costs against the relatively low sales gives sega a difficult decision in what to do. and now given their current problems makes our position as fans even more difficult.

When Sega asked, we showed up. Yakuza 4 was released, we showed up. Yakuza: Dead Souls was released, we showed up.

I think Yakuza 5 will be coming this way, call it a niche title or not, but the fans will show up.
If localization costs are not in the cards for Sega, then I would be willing to pony up $$ to make it come here.
I know in the end, money talks.
I dunno Yakuza 4 sold pretty poorly...and 3 didn't even sell that well to begin with....I think they were thinking more people would by the sequel not less. Dead Souls is also selling poorly...

But yeah Yakuza is only niche title because they aren't trying. It has all the elements to appeal to the mass market but instead they try to cater to weaboos....just because its cheaper. Yakuza 5 should be a new beginning, a chance to make a push in the west.

I wonder if Y5 is released as a launch title for PS4 if that would help them get a fresh start and get a better share of the market since less games will be available.

I think it was confirmed since last year that it wil be released on PS3. The PS3 can still push great graphics so theres no doubt that this game will look spectacular. I still think Kenzan, Yakuza 3, 4 and Dead Souls have the best graphics and photorealistic presentation than any other game. To this day, watching Kenzan cinematics still blow me away.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's PS3 as well and I don't doubt it will look spectacular. Kenzan still looks awesome to me as well I don't know how people can say it's so dated. It was more food for thought like if it was a launch title and there are only a handful of games maybe more people wold buy it.

I'd cry if we didn't get the 5th game.

I think with a good marketing, Yakuza would do great even in the West, I don't see it like a niche game.
Hope Yakuza 5 will be a new beginning for the series even in the West.

Hope even Kenzan will arrive here
man Sega couldn't be reduced to just some digital releases and Sonic on winter holidays

Sega is under the impression that Yakuza will do well in the west magically without any advertisements, marketing or promotions whatsoever. They can't blame the "Western market" for their own mistakes.

There was no demo for Yakuza 3. The Yakuza 4 demo for the west was terrible, it made the game look like a poor beat em up. I have no idea why they decided not to have it identical to the Japanese demo. Almost everyone who I spoke to about Yakuza 4 said it was a bad fighting game. Little did they know it was an RPG. Who could blame them? Last of all, Yakuza Dead Souls. No demo, only online marketing. "Hey lets put zombies and chainsaws, the west sure will love that!".

In my opinion, Sega only has themselves to blame for the poor sales in the west.

People, RGG studio started RGG 5 not long a go. The game will probably be out next year. I don't believe in a western release, but if happens, it's probably gonna be in the end of 2013, maybe 2014.

We are in april 2012, let's just wait to see. It's too early to take conclusions. If things get better for SEGA, maybe we will have YAkuza 5, if no, so i'm sorry, no Yakuza 5. It's sad? Yes, it is, but we can't expect a company without money releasing a game that's it's gonna sell 100k.

Maybe Yakuza 5 will come as a digital release. This way, they don't need to spend money with a lot of things and maybe Yakuza 5 is viable.

Anyway, like i said, it's too early.
