Default Is there any DOWNSIDE to SEGA selling the Casino Night pinball DLC?

If SEGA decides to start selling the Casino Night pinball on PSN and X-Box Live, then could there possibly be any financial disadvantage for them?

I mean... say it only sells 16 copies or something. Do they lose money because they had to pay to make the download available?

I'm just trying to understand why Casino Night isn't available for console purchase. Even if it was a preorder reward and even if it is buyable on Steam, wouldn't it just make financial sense to make the existing DLC even more available?

I suppose third-party companies do lose some money by releasing products in e-Shops upon selling anything. Also, god knows how minor they probably are, but I suppose that the whole process of doing such thing (specifically protecting this release from being hacked as it simply unlocks a feature that is already on-disc) might feature some minor costs.

And one could always argue that they don't sell it because they want to keep it a pre-order exclusive treat and/or because previous attempts (how well it sold on Steam, amount of pre-orders, reviews and criticism towards the level) failed.

I agree, if there aren't many costs associated with simply listing the dlc on PSN and XBL then this is a great idea especially conisdering the financial situation SEGA is in now. The only downside to this i can see is that it may discourage pre-orders of future Sonic games very slightly.

Since i don't own Sonic Generations yet and it is obviously too late to pre-order it if i want to buy it and get the casino night dlc as well, my only option is to buy a new limited/collectors edition copy off of someone on, for example, ebay.

I'm sorry but not putting the DLC up for consoles because of discouraging pre-orders is total BS. There are countries, whole zones, that weren't allowed to pre-order. Actually, look at my example. In my country when I asked to pre-order it this was my response on SEVERAL gamestores: "I'm sorry, but we do not have that on our database. In fact, there is no knowledge of such game being in development, i.o.w. even existing". Then I went there a week before release and they said that "there was no game with that title available for purchase or pre-purchase" I went like WTF?! November 4th I come by and ask for the game and they're like: "What? Oh do you mean that game we literally got this morning and only inputted in our website two days before release, then removed it only for it to be put back up in friggin' Febraury 2012?!" I was so annoyed at this point, because there was also no Collector's Edition nor Limited Edition ANYWHERE and they were like "Um... No, we have a PS3 entry, a 360 entry and a 3DS entry nothing else". And now I'm expected to NEVER get the DLC because no one ever bothered to make it available over here? And don't get me with the "Oh you should've preordered online..." thing I can't even spend 50 online, compare it now to 70!

NOthing against you, MP, it's just that it's ing me off that even Steam has it and we (console owners) don't.

Well it could be taking resources away from other games I guess.

SEGA could outsource DLC, that has been done successfully before (granted mappacks in a FPS are not the same).

There is a reacuring fee that must be paid in order for anything from a developer to stay on virtual stores.

Pretty much my reaction after facepalming when coming back every week to the Xbox Live page of the game and noticing the DLC's not there. Somehow, I've found a link online from a fellow fan, no idea how he found it, but here it is. You think there may have been plans to release it at all?

Yet the Sonic Unleashed DLC is still up on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Maybe... They're planning to release more DLC, and they're waiting for when they release the rest to release Casino Night.
