Ah we dont even have the damn game yet.
Bad marketing. Average game.
Signatures sucks, especially signature images. Which is why I have them off, so I never see the blasted things.
Binary Domain had little to no marketing, and as much as it pains me to say this, the game itself looked awfully generic. We can't really blame the "average Joe" for skipping it.
If you consider this game generic then what is COD, and GOW to the "average joe?" But I agree with you that the "average joe" follows the flock and hype of the masses and marketing. The game cover could have been better though. Why didn't Sega just put the Binary Domain half skull/human on the cover, or the splash screen of the PS3 before you load the game? Those would've been much cooler.

What I meant by "generic" is that Binary Domain doesn't really stand out from the crowd, and when it does it's all for the bad reasons (e.g. bad writing, bad voice acting, no SP co-op and tacked on multiplayer). The game simply does not look as unique or technically impressive as the other shooters in the market such as, Vanquish, the aforementioned GoW and even Uncharted itself, amongst others. In other words, it's an oversaturated genre (a fact that was actually acknowledged by the Yakuza Team in the past) and, therefore, the competition is obviously too damn strong, especially for games that don't have a multi-million dollar marketing campaign behind their back.
