Question Sonic 2 on Sega CD?

Is it possible to burn Sonic 2 or any normal Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis game on CD, and play it on Sega CD/Mega CD?

No, it's not possible. The game would need to be reprogrammed/modified to work with the Sega CD Hardware as the memory system is different and certain parts of the Genesis hardware can't be accessed by the Sega CD if I remember correctly.

Though some fans over at SonicRetro did partially port Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 to the Sega CD.

More options for playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version)...

If you own a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive... I'm guessing that you are using a Sega Genesis along with that Sega CD and I'm guessing you live in the USA. So pick up a cartridge copy of Sonic 2 or Sonic Compilation (Sonic 1/Sonic 2/Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine) from an online store or retro gaming store.

    If you own a...
    Sega Saturn, get Sonic Jam
Playstation 2, get Sega Genesis Collection or Sonic Mega Collection+.
Original Xbox, get Sonic Mega Collection+.
    Gamecube, get Sonic Mega Collection.
Nintendo DS, get Sonic Classic Collection.
Wii, download from Virtual Console if your Wii doesn't play Gamecube games.
Playstation 3, get Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection or download from the PSN.
Playstation Portable, get Sega Genesis Collection.
Xbox 360, get Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection or download from the XBL.
PC, get Sega Smash Pack 2.

Now if you want Sonic 2 on the Game Gear or Sega Master System.
Get the games Sonic Adventure DX on the Gamecube/XBL/PSN/PC/WiiVC or Sonic Gems Collection on Gamecube (PS2 in some regions).

I'm still not sure how one would benefit from this, as the SEGA CD is just an attachment for the Genesis, which already plays Sonic 1 and 2. If you really want the games in CD format that bad, you can just get the compilations...

The desire for it is the idea of throwing tons of roms onto a CD and having them load up and play. That can't work for the reasons I posted above. However we now have Flash Carts for this.

Like TrekkiesUnite118 said, it would need to be reprogrammed & such to work with Sega CD specifically. Supposedly, there WERE plans back in the 90's for an official port of Sonic 1 & Sonic 2 for the Sega CD, but those plans were scrapped. However, the people over at Sonic Retro could probably port Sonic 2 over to the Sega CD if you asked. In the meantime, I'd recommend you go to Sonic Retro, download Sonic Megamix & burn that for your Sega CD since they made a version that runs on Sega CD.

Some people who usually make hacks of the Genesis Sonic games may find it useful.
