    Exclamation [RUMOR] Sega Europe closing means no more AAA titles from sega?

    So I was just linked to this;
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=476625
    Sega Europe to announce its closing?

    On the eve of E3 2012, we are able to inform you, according to our credible sources, that Sega Europe will be finally closed in the coming months as well as all the local branches in Europe like Sega France. This is partly a consequence of the ineffectiveness of Sega's strategy over the past several years of developing games by western developers. At the same time, Sega will also announce, according to these sources, they will no longer develop AAA games on consoles, but will focus on digital games for cell phones and notably tablets. Sega's last big title developed by Creative Assembly will be presented at E3 2012 in a few days. Furthermore, remember that Sega has announced they will not be at Gamescom 2012.
    I'm stunned, I can't believe sega is going to stop all the AAA development they have going on, after making such quality titles like Shogun 2, Sonic Generations and more.
    And after all the ages sega has provided with high quality products.
    What do you think? is this rumour fake or does it make sense?

    it's a BS rumor, well not fully BS, but definitely exaggerated. Yakuza 5 was just announced by SEGA Japan.

    I could see SEGA Europe going digital only, SEGA America has been that way for a while now. Maybe SEGA wants all the big AAA games developed in Japan.

    While it is possible that it's not true, if you think about it, it makes sense. SEGA can't catch a single good sale and AAA games are getting mad expensive. Just goes to show you SEGA couldn't escape the Sonic cycle afterall.

    if this is a digital-only thing, but keeping the AAA titles, it'd be fine by me, I mean I pre ordered the digital version of Sonic Generations, and bought Shogun 2 digitally aswell. And I'm satisfied with the service.

    Confirmation that this rumour is false, from Sports Interactive Studio Director:

    “Interweb rumours of SEGA Europe closing are false. Rumours of Dirk Kuyt signing for Fenerbache? Much more likely.”

    Well, thank goodness for that. Had that been true, I would have had to emigrate to Australia.
