Sorry about what? A "Player's Choice" entitles that regardless of wherever country it sold , the game sold more than a Million copies. In Europe Billy got a player's choice meaning it was still a success even if it was not on Sonic levels.

I'm not saying I agree with either one of you. But what I am saying is Billy isn't exactly something that should be taken so simple just because it didn't produce AAA results and have sequels.

(not aimed at you Axl) You try to make a new IP and sell a million copies.

Obviously they do, he fits with the light-hearted character cast...Also, and let's not forget most of the titles you mentioned are Sonic Team's.

I did, and it doesn't mean squat.
Blood Will Tell was Noriyoshi Ohba's last IP with Sega... And he was as important, if not more, than Yuji Naka... Does that mean Blood Will Tell is magically one of Sega's most important IPs? What kind of logic is that?

The problem is that you believe the fact that its his last project is something worthy of making it it one of SEGA's most relevant IPs... I don't think you understand how many talented people have left SEGA to this moment.

How else would you gauge importance or relevance? I could apply your arguments to many obscure SEGA games that I love... that doesn't make them somehow the most important SEGA IPs. I know better than to delude myself with that.

    You're just being overly defensive.

Games like Viewtiful Joe, which is on the list, sold 275k world-wide, which is not what I call selling well... If it did, we would have seen Billy Hatcher 2, but Sega knows better.

But SMB actually succeeded and spawned a big franchise... While Billy Hatcher never got another game.

Look at it this way guys...

Amigo never got a sequel (The Wii version does not count) yet he's considered one of SEGA's key players.

So Billy Hatcher could still be a big-time SEGA character, even if he didn't spawn a franchise like Sonic or AiAi

I have no idea how much Samba de Amigo sold. Though from my observation, the game got a decent fanbase and it got released on three platforms, which still doesn't make it much more important than Billy Hatcher... Let alone one of the "few" most important in SEGA's "history".

Whatever ya say dude. Viewtiful Joe had a Sequel lol.

Again I'm neutral in all of this. I'm just amused by what you think is successful and what isn't.

    There's a huge difference between 2003 and 2012.

"Success" is used ambiguously in the industry, some may call the game just turning a profit a "Success", or when it meet the sales target they set up... in the case of Viewtiful Joe, it was considered "relatively successful" by Capcom because despite having a small budget, it sold 100k in its first week in Japan, and 100k in its first month in the US, by comparison, Billy Hatcher sold a measly 3k in its first week in Japan, and 30k in its first month in the US. (Both games came in the same month, October).

It's safe to assume that Billy Hatcher sold much less than VJ, which is low even in 2003 standards.

We don't have to go that far and use numbers do we? the fact that Sega did not invest further in the IP means it wasn't particularly successful, don't you agree? I don't see what's "amusing" about that.

I'd rather have Billy Hatcher on the term that he is a unique character who brings something specials other characters cannot to the game and is pretty interesting. Last I checked, there weren't many young kids using eggs to fight evil. That is pretty awesome. XD

He is really well liked within SEGA, and some of the Sumo staff like Joe have admitted love for him too, so that gets him points as well for getting in.

Agreed. Billy Hatcher must have been one of the Sega's mascots that have been liked by not only his fans, but the company itself.
Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing has brought up the great overall. And now, the sequel to such an incredible sega racing competition will soon commence...

I also agree. I loved playing a Billy Hatcher. It would be pretty cool to see his egg mobile turn into a chicken in mid-air or a duck in the water. Or something like that.
