Well I hope they follow it up with some news regarding a Vita remix of VC3 because that would be a quality product. This 'Duel' does not appear to be of fitting quality to call it a VC title imo. Sigh but at least they have done something I guess, and I hope they understand that the negativity is because we all love VC so much and want to see another TRUE VC game (that includes a localised VC3 of course).

It's a spinoff, and I don't think it was ever intended to be a proper installment in the VC series. It's best to look at it for what it is, rather than something that SEGA is giving us in place of a proper VC game.

With SEGA's current financial situation, I don't think even THAT is on the cards right now. Disappointing, but they should be spending time pushing their successful series.

As for why VC isn't one of their successful series, I'm sure that's due in part to the fact that SEGA has failed miserably in promoting it- along with several other franchises.

    You are on fire.

[QUOTE=lebowsk1;7397387]They could have went with a HD-remixed VC2/3 on Vita. In comes the cash. Then they could have localised it and if it had taken off sufficiently, they could return to the PS3 for a more expensive sequel.

It just seems they've compromised the franchise downwards and it's just reached breaking point to me. The PSP games I was fine with. Yes the step-aim-step trick really went too far in the PSP games, and the storyline really lost a lot of quality, but the core of VC was there. This, I don't see it.

Dude, I understand why you are angry about this. Truly, I do. But, consider this. If Sega makes a lot of money with this "Spin-Off" [and we have to keep in mind that this is what it is, that and the fact that it has been out-sourced], they will be able to focus there efforts on providing us with a core Valkyria Chronicles game. I would have prefered them to do something else and I'm also for the hd collection in the future. I want to see X-Com do well and I want to see Valkyria Chronicles do well, but these browser games seem to do well both finanicially and as jumping points for future releases, the fact that we have a new console X-com is a testiment to that fact given that it began with a browser game! Just give it a chance mate.

Honestly, SEGA has a prime opportunity to please the fans by targeting PS3 and Vita going forward with the franchise. Others have talked about how easy it is to get a version of a game going across the 2 so they can dust off the PS3 version of the engine, tweak it for Vita, refine it in general for both (I'm sure after these couple of years, they can add/streamline the engine some more) and work on VC4 for both. Hits the handheld fanbase they built up with VC2 and VC3 and the console fans of VC1 longing for it's return to PS3. It works for them in pleasing both 'segments' of fans.

Go the distance and up-port VC2 & VC3 to Vita/PS3 HD Remasters and port VC1 to Vita and make full collections prior to VC4. Fans will eat that up. LE/SE with the anime included. If they don't want to back it entirely, ask Sony to co-publish or something. I'm sure they'd like to have another RPG/game lined up for the Vita and they'd probably loan out some first-party expertise as well.

    Pipe dream though...-_-

When do people will realize that this complete travesty of this beloved franchise will not be good in any scenarios? If it will sell well, why in a million years you think that they would invest money in port VC3 and make VC4 as VC1? They will just continue to ship out horrible browser games. If this spin-off does not do well, of course they will never go back to the origin of the series. It happened before, with many other games and genre (Diablo, anyone? And how it was supposed to revitalize an entire genre (RPG)? Diablo brought us only 2 decades of click-fest clones…). But if you like to dream and hope, please go ahead. I’m done. Bye SEGA, hopefully you’ll get bankrupt and some other publisher will pick up the IP.

No idea why you think this means the end of the franchise. I mean yeah, in the US it has no budget and is probably finished, but the fact that they're making a browser/app game does not mean that's all this franchise will be now.

If SEGA goes bankrupt, I don't really see that happening. For something like Sonic, yeah, but VC? Don't think so.

    You are on fire.

It looks quite good to me. It's annoying that people on almost every website are ranting about it; for heaven's sake it's a spin-off

I actually don't mind that it's a spin-off/CCG. I'd just like to play/enjoy it so I'll look into seeing if I can create an account when it goes live. Would be nice if SEGA translated this as a good will gesture to NA/EU fans but I'm more expecting some fans to get some translations together (maybe throw a guide together) and just have it that way.

I think it's ok, as long as we'll see an actual VC game too someday. If they switched those godly games to this, then there is no salvation.
