    Default Xbox/Motorola lawsuit

What's the status of it so far? Is MS gonna lose? Because I need to know when I should deadline myself to get a new Xbox.

MS can't technically lose. Since the patents are standard to technology, they'll have to license at some point, but there's no way in hell that the ITC will actually ban the Xbox. They'll definitely crucify Motorola over it's abuse of standard patents, but worst comes to worst MS will sign an agreement and/or pay damages(if they can be proved.)

If a Ban IS placed, you can bet your dollar that it will be overturned quickly, since you can't ban products for infringements of standards, because then the product wouldn't exist!

That explains it all right there perfectly. Thanks bro!

My dad is putting our old house on the market soon and said he would buy me an Xbox for helping to clean everything up that the realters want us to do before they can put it on the market. Of course he would be buying it after the house sells since we're strapped for cash atm. So yeah, what you said was definitely helpful.

Industry standards like H.264 should not be subject to patent laws in the first place. Look at what happened to the MP3 format.

My thoughts exactly. IIRC the only lawsuit I've seen with that is the classic Metallica vs. Napster thing or whatever you want to call it.

Even with legit mp3 apps like iTunes, CD sales are still pretty much decreasing.

Before long, CD's will be 100% obsolete.

Blame the USPTO for allowing such patents to get through in the first place(and allowing for such patents). Personally I think many things should not be patented idealogically(such as shapes) but meh, that won't happen until the Patent system is reformed.
