Nintendo already have platforms to advertise the Wii U. They have Nintendo Direct and as previously mentioned they'll be doing a roadshow in Germany. They don't need an appearance at Gamescom to advertise their stuff.

The real enemy is your own fear.
Actually, we've seen big announcements from the event in the past, usually from MS and Sony. That's why it's surprising that MS won't take part.Sega still has something to show, and why wouldn't it be worth it for them to be at an event that has less relevance than E3? Also, what does Sega going digital have to do with anything? Like I said before, you're not going to see major news coverage about this event. No new announcements about anything will be made. A lot of publishers don't see it as an important event. Whatever was at E3 will also be at this show. THat being said, it might be more worth Nintendo's time to have their own private press conference.
Nintendo, again, they're launching new hardware THIS YEAR. You'd think that they'd be taking every opportunity to show it off.

I'm LOL'ing so hard right now at this thread.
Because laughing at it is better than ripping my hair out.
Lady Excaliburn hath arrived. Also, call me an over-sized letter opener, and I shall find you and destroy you.
Somehow I know that we can't wake from this dream...it's not real...
A Terraria Mod Idea: Help Wanted
Nah, this is what Shadi does:
1. Find an article that makes Nintendo looks bad.
2. Only read the first paragraph and misinterpret it to suit his biased agenda.
3. ?????
4. Profit.
As if this is anything new for them.
Again, nothing new for Shadi.
I love how you just pointed out Microsoft's biggest flaw right here, they don't have a lot of first party games (and what little first party games they do have lack any semblance of diversity). Even more ironic is that they actually do have some things to show off in the form of Smart Glass, which while it isn't a new console per say, is a game changing peripheral and they should definitely show it off some more. Also, Microsoft has 3 new IPs (Ascend: New Gods, Lococycle, and Matter) and last time I checked we know pretty much nothing about those last two.
My words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
Nintendo does have a lot of platformers, but they do have some racing games, fighting games, RPGs, shooters, casual games, and probably some others I'm forgetting. What few first party games Microsoft has is usually shooters, sports games, or casual games. Their lineup is significantly less diverse than Nintendo's.
