Default Digital only will kill SEGA !

I think SEGA will die with almost every game go digital.
Instead of going digital they have to make collections like other developers, look @ the metal gear solid collection the Devil may cry, and other games. they sell well and they are on disc. If SEGA makes a Shenmue collection, Dreamcast collection 2, sega saturn collection, and a mega drive collection 2 with also some Master system games on it. It does not cost a lot of money, because they just have to port it, that's all ! Sega must listen to there fans, whe are making SEGA, whe are the reason they still here ! So stop digital and bring us some collections on disc !

No, physical discs will kill SEGA. Have any idea of how much more it costs to press discs?

With 80-90% of the sales coming from the PSNPlus, where the game is FREE.
The actual figures for XBox360 are 13000 gamers on leaderboards, just a little difference with 300k...

I agree with OP, if Sega will stick with portings, they should make reatil disc collection instead of DD only.
Just look at the dreamcast collection, all the leaderboards are over 99999 (the maximum) for crazy taxi for example.

The other DD only games on XBLA barely reach the 30k.

Definitively, DD only will kill Sega, hope they will undestand it before it's too late.

No, in fact I wish the industry would transition to Digital faster because it's fantastic for Sega. Sega are one of the last companies ever to still have a large presants in the Arcade industry and make some totally awesome games, like Border Break, Daytona USA and Virtua Fighter that would be overshadowed at retail simply because they aren't the popular genres anymore.

If you think awesome classics like Guardian Heroes, Daytona USA, REZ, Sonic Adventure, NiGHTS etc etc etc would ever get a shot of selling enough copies at retail to warrent a release then you're kidding yourself. Even that Dreamcast Collection of 3 games was a complete bombed and I'm sure Sega lost money on that when they could have been making a tidy profit.

Printing DVD disks, Manuals, Cover art, buying the plastic packaging, estimating sales numbers, shipping, return shipping when they overestimate and have to buy back stock... All of this is terribly expensive for publishers. But with digital none of this is an issue, which means that all of those classics which made us all Sega fans in the first place can have a new leace of life and can be brought back for the new generation of gamers to experience.

You think with out digital we would ever have got After Burner Climax on a home console? The answer is no... Not a chance. Because at retail it would cost 30 or so dollars (Not to mention most of that money is going too the retailer not Sega) Now Arcade style, onrail jet fighters are a very niche market it's just not worth it for Sega. But as a digital title Sega can put it up for $10 everyone who wants it will get it and get it for cheap and plenty of people who had a passing interest in the game will buy it because handing over $10 isn't going to break the bank. With games like Phantasy Star Online 2 it can be completely free too download and play because micro transactions means the few will pay for the many and people like me get PSO2 for free!

It's perfect for the kind of company Sega is... Maybe we'll even get some sequals to games like Guardian Heroes for Digital Download where as before the chances were about zero.

But the fact is Sega are not going 100% digital they still have AAA games coming out to retail. Like Sonic, Yakuza, Total War etc and according too The Creative Assembly who make Total War they are already seeing big improvments in support meaning higher quality games oveall. Rome 2 Total War which was just announced has a 40% higher budget then any previous game in the series and it looks bloody glorious for it! (Go check out some screenshots.)

    So... yeah. I voted no.

It is smart for companies go digital, especially in digital markets like PSN (millions own PS3 and shop on PSN, bring games like Guardian Heroes, Dragon Force, etc. to PSN and many more people would buy them instead of on disk, which costs more to Sega and customers.)

Retails releases is a huge risk and waste of money, really. People can still get the full game on digital market, plus digital market provides virtually infinite supplies of the game, so there would be no worry of shortages, so people can buy it without needing to go to ebay for a rare copy.

Also digital games are easy to replace. if data gets corrupted, just redownload it for free.

Thanks to digital market, companies have been able to bring videogames to consoles that would otherwise not have been brought over or ported.

Also people would not get ripped off by retail stores that sell used copies as new.

and companies would not lose profits from used game sales, which the money doesn't go to them.
