It depends. In the newer games I think the writers are self aware that some of Sonic's lines make fun of themselves, and the same goes for Eggman, but it's a little more obvious. But I always thought both were cool in their own way. When it comes to the more recent outings I really look forward to what the Doctor has to say. XD

Think about it, he nearly destroyed the planet using the energy of Dark Gaia, caused an alien genocide, and resurrected Chaos from the dead who wiped out an entire city. So...ya.

And pretty much converted a creature who pretty much is the essence of time into a robot. What makes him even more bad*** there is that he knew almost nothing about the creature.

On the other hand, he pretty much builds a pathway for Sonic to beat him.

Eggman split the frickin' world in 7, unleashes gods on a daily basis, constructs super sadistic artificial intelligences for fun, wages war like a religion, and has a freakish moustache to boot.
He's probably Russian. Coolness is dripping off his chilled bones.

Sonic? Just... says corny lines about how cool he is. Yeah, he's blue and runs at speeds upwards of 2,000 miles per hour, but he lost his tude on the battlefield decades ago. And you forgot Sonic X- Sonic is the 'automatic fantastic.' Eggman (and Knuckles) is a goofball who can't do anything right.
