Overall I think Sonic colors was made to be played the way I like.
Out of Colors 36 levels, how many of them are just parts from the same levels and how many of them last longer than 2 minutes?

About probably 6 of them, but I don't need to play games for more than 2 minutes. You miss the last part of the paragraph too. will you believe it took me 2 months to beat the game without looking for the red rings? It must have taken me forever to find the red ring thoughts but it was good long fun.

But outside of the art direction/environments, were there really that many new ideas in Colors? The levels themselves are barely even part of the environment, and at least half of the color powers were abilities Sonic (or some other character) already had in some way. I shouldn't need a power-up just to run up walls, spin dash, or light dash. The Blue Cube isn't even a power-up, it just makes platforms appear. What's the point in that? Do I really need to sit through some five second animation before jumping to the next platform?

While I'll admit that they should've gave Sonic the spindash and the light speed dash, but the wisps that had the character's abilities were testing grounds to see how they would work and what interesting ways they can use it.

    Ever heard of Aquarium park?

Thank GOD, the Wisps are optional and are only kept for slow Explorations or multiple paths like Sonic 3&k

Generations was a love letter to the Sonic series. It wasn't meant to be innovative or exciting...just a great-designed game that features redone levels.

That being said, it isn't exactly "original." I feel Colors is the better game of the two, just because it has so many radically different levels, great play style, exciting original music, and precise controls.

I liked Generation more in all ways but I did love that umm.. Aquarium Park Ninja place in Sonic Colors.
Some of the levels in that game were really neat.
