Default Deus ex (Original, GotY, bought on Steam) runs too fast ON MY LATITUDE D610.

At first I messed with the sound settings and the situation seemed to be fixed, but soon it popped back up. Then I tried upping the resolution and that actually seemed to work, but now the problem's cropped up again. I've seen that one solution is to set your processor to run on one core or something, except as was already stated in the title, I'M RUNNING IT ON A LATITUDE D610. THIS FREAKIN' THING RUNS FIREFOX SLOW AS MOLASSES. I guess this shouldn't come as any surprise, seeing as how Deus Ex is 12 years old, but still.

Meantime, I get an error message whenever I try to boot the game up on my dimension 8400.
I'm an optimist. Deal with it.
I beat the Time Eater without a guide.

I not optimal but realistic way to solve this issue it running Vmware or any other virtual machine that will let you simulate another os. Install win 98. If your cpu is dual core win 98 will only use one of those cores. You also can choose clock speeds in some virtual os so you can set it at the recommended exactly.

    Googled this, found a suggestion:

If you alt-tab to the desktop, bring up the task manager, rightclick on the deusex process and use "set affinity" to bind it to just one processor, it works just fine.

Thats a issue I have with steam. They dont make devs go back and update there games to supports the lastest os. I remember buying mass effect off steam and it didnt even work on Win 7 at all for me. So I bought it on whatever EA's service is and it worked totally fine.

Given how he posted, it can be assumed that the D610 is single-core? IDK.

This is a common issue for all the Unreal Engine 1 games, and have to do with the energy saving features of CPUs (Intel SpeedStep & AMD PowerNow!) that change the CPU operating speed depending on the workload. So turn that thing off.

What basically happens is that when the game starts the game the CPU idles with a low operating speed and thus the game believe the CPU to be very slow, but then the CPU operating speed goes up to it's normal speed and the game gets crazy fast. It's basically just a very outdated CPU detection routine thingy.
Signatures sucks, especially signature images. Which is why I have them off, so I never see the blasted things.
