You read that I'm not pasting that. But I found an interesting tidbit in the comments

They aren't allowing for CPU/GPU/RAM upgrades, they're setting a standard architecture much like the iPhone/iPad model.

In other words they'll get rid of the need for the standard generations we're used to, instead we have a generation that just keeps going through improved hardware releases that are faster and more powerful but based on the same architecture, therefore all games designed for Xbox Infinity 1 will work on Xbox Infinity 2, and vice versa, however they'll look better/perform better on Xbox Infinity 2. Just like on the iPhone/iPad I can get Infinity blade 2, and it'll work on my old iPad 1 released 2 year ago and it'll work on my phone or iPad 2. But for optimal performance or some added features you need the latest hardware revision.

Enjoy if this is true.

Or of course it could be for just replaceable parts like a PC. But at that point the whole system becomes rather redundant to start with.

the company wars here remind me of world war 1

one side shells the other for hours and then charges(with insults), the other defends and retaliates after the siege, and then everyone crawls back in their trench or gets slaughtered in no mans land(ignored or yelled at here). repeat for years until both sides realize theyre fighting over nothing and gaining nothing.

This is what I;m trying to figure out. The overwhelming amount of people who comment in the article by siphoning some wording of the application seem to suggest that it IS, which I stated would make the console itself redundant. Jim Sterling also recently covered this issue with Consoles.

If however it is as I posted in the quote above, then MS has effectively lost cost efficiency, unless they really hunker down and subsidize this thing. If I want to play scalable games I would go for a PC. The set hardware is one of the advantages for Developers that consoles have, and with MS it could go either way assuming this is put to use.
