Axing Marine probobly has to do with the fact that they're milking Blaze and not even explaining how she gets from the sol dimension to here. So they make the plot of Rush null and void, rewrite the history of the villain (Eggs man Nega is now from the future) and discontinue the supporting cast. And Rush was the only good still-ongoing subplot. Bravo, sega. Rush is no longer canon~

Erm, one character had a very shaky premise from the start (Big), the other had a supporting role in one game and thus could never be said to be anything but a one-off (Marine).

You're putting too much weight into this.
