Default Best character to start with?

Let's put it that way. One guy never played a Virtua Fighter of his entire life. He recently got interest in VF5: Final Showdown. He gets it and starts to play it. See where I'm going?

Anyway, if you were to start playing this game, which character would be best to start with?

Lau, I guess. Many of his moves are simple and effective, like PPPK and KK.
Signatures sucks, especially signature images. Which is why I have them off, so I never see the blasted things.

I'd say Jacky Bryant. He's extremely fast and his moves are easy to pull off. I also find Taka-Arashi fairly accessible for newcomers. Apart from being a strong character, he's also surprisingly fast, especially for a sumo wrestler. Besides, due to his size, most combos don't work on him, which gives him a real good advantage against certain characters. I have to admit though, I hate Taka with a passion. He should have stayed "dead" if you ask me.

Anyway, the game actually does a good job of teaching you the basics (you should check the game's tutorial before even thinking about jumping into the multiplayer), but if you want to take the game a bit more seriously, you should definitely visit VFDC for additional vital information.

Pai is perfect for beginners. Also Brad is quite easy to control IMO.

After trying through almost all of the characters I often found myself having the most success with Jacky Bryant in my playthroughs, I'd say it was thanks to him that I could even beat some of the challenges where as with others I usually failed. I'll second DamnedBones on his recommendation of Jacky Bryant, he's pretty good.

Pai? No.... Lau sure, Taka-Arashi. Also Jean is not bad for beginners, he gets more and more technical in a second moment but in the beginning you can be effective even if you don't take advantage of all of his options
    I WANT SHENMUE III
