“We want to make it as easy as possible for the 2,500 games on Steam to run on Linux as well. It’s a hedging strategy. I think Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space. I think we’ll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market. I think margins will be destroyed for a bunch of people. If that’s true, then it will be good to have alternatives to hedge against that eventuality.

Man, I agree with Gabe on this. I've been saying all along that Windows 8 is not looking good at all, and Windows for ARM looks worse with all its locks. Though Linux will never be very mainstream, it'll be good to not be using Windows 8.

Windows 8 is great performance and software wise in terms of performing and working drivers, the problem with it gabe has is that it's going in the direction of a walled off environment like iOS. Gabe doesnt like that.

just look at Microsoft surface, it's obvious what Microsoft's plans are for Windows 8.

I've got the Windows 8 Consumer Preview and I'm going to get Windows 8 properly when it comes out, its a bit messy at times, but I'll let it off because its unfinished, I was a bit hacked off though when the Release Preview came out and you had to lose everything to get it and I really can't be bothered to back everything up so I'll just wait it out.
