Faded Interest

I've been starting to notice that over the last few months, my overall interest in video games has gone down quite a bit. Maybe it was because I went without touching one for 2 full years (literally, I didn't play any games at all). Like, when I got home, there were a bunch of games that my siblings had bought that I really wanted to play. They were great games to be sure, and pretty fun, but overall I'm just not getting all that excited over games anymore.
Is it because I'm just growing out of them? Or are there just not that many enticing games on the market right now? Anyone else feel this way?

I've been turning my attention more towards books and comics lately. I'm certainly not leaving gaming behind, I'm just expanding my horizons, and simply not giving all of my time to games as a result.

Because you're only playing what's new and popular. There's a lot of really cool stuff worth playing if you're actually willing to take the time and do some research. It's how I found out about all the hidden gems on Genesis and SNES, clone consoles like the SupaBoy, Android handhelds, 360 shmups, etc. Gaming is just as good as it's ever been, you just need to know where to look.

I've found that some of the most knowledgable people when it comes to video games (outside of the developers themselves obviously) are collectors. You don't necessarily have to collect in order to have fun with games, but it helps to know your game libraries more than just the usual mainstream stuff.

Just pick any system and any genre and see what comes up. You don't have to stick with the newer ones, either (in fact it may be better to find some older games you can pick up for cheap). You'll be surprised how much stuff you can find. I also recommend checking out Satoshi Matrix's blog and some other retro gaming sites. There's a lot of really cool obscure stuff out there.

You also may want to ask about some good obscure/rare games in the SEGA Gaming section. They usually seem to know a lot about them.
