    Default Microsoft's new company logo

    http://mashable.com/2012/08/23/micro...go-commentary/

What do you guys think of it? Personally, I kind of like it. It's not the most interesting logo, but it works.

It's simple...that's what everyone wants, simplicity. Just like Web 2.0 design. MS has moved on to smoother, lighter, simpler schemes with their design.

It works, and I don't mind it.

It looks boring, but that's fine for Microsoft, they are a boring company.

Their old logo is more unique, but was really starting to look dated, which makes sense, they've been using it since like the 90's.

but having the Microsoft and Windows logo near each other is going to look stupid now, having two flags in the same area. would of been better if they just left it as text, flag should be reserved for Windows. oh and when i say flag i mean windows of course, but to avoid confusion using the term flag

what it reminds me of is a more bland version of the Microsoft store logo, but they went with flat squares rather then the other style because of metro UI, Metro UI is all about flat colors.

if you look at the context in how they are using it on their site http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx i'd say it works well with the style they are going for

so yeah i'd say it's a good redesign. just bland on it's own, but looks good when used with Metro UI style elements, like on their site.

actually, i take that part about having two flags next to eachother, discovered this on the footer

that's probably what they would use for windows boxes, without the flag. so yeah, it's a good logo.

I think that's the idea. If you noticed, a lot of companies who had the "evil empire" reputation in the past have altered their logos to look friendly. A perfect example is Walmart and the logo they adopted in 2008. That doesn't change the fact that they're a horrible company, but the idea of. Being friendly is present in their current logo.

I'd say Evil Empire is the good term for Apple now, things have changed :P Microsoft has fallen behind and his being forced to actually be the nice guy. That's how it goes for all companies though, it will happen to Apple too one day.

Apple is the evil corporation, stale silver and black, rounded corners, and ugly "web 2.0 effects" of gradients and glossy buttons

Microsoft is the breath of fresh air, solid bright colors, interesting new interface, and sharp edges.

Microsoft is the future, and Apple is the company that is suffering from greed issues, and is more concentrated on suing and making money rather then innovating.

Or perhaps MS is the has-been, and Google with Android and Chrome is the Future.

Nothing wrong with wanting to take over the world.. Can MS really compete with all that?

Unless by "future" you just meant MS will just be the little niche company that people like and care about.
