Thank you that you decided to open this thread, "spud18".

I registered to the Sega forums just to show my support to this.

Shenmue it is the only game that makes me look towards Sega (well, and Alex Kidd, for a true sequel of "Alex Kidd of Miracle World", but that is another story...) and waiting for something. And that is Shenmue III. Much more can be said about Shenmue and have already been said.

I will recall a post I made at "Shenmue Dojo":
Shenmue fans want engagement/interactiveness. Shenmue is engaging and about interactiveness. And while they do not find these qualities in a new Shenmue game (that is Shenmue III), they are going to find them in ways like these campaigns. Shenmue fans want to express their hope, excitement and love for Shenmue, through significant action (that also binds them together / unite them and, thus, interacting with each other).

Therefore, join Tweetathon and tell @Sega to continue the series of this masterpiece or #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense.

The Shenmue community's actions to convince Sega to release Shenmue 3 have been way too negative if you ask me. It's again apparent if you look at the Tweet you guys intend to send out. You haven't been ignored because Shenmue 3 hasn't been released, Sega and Yu Suzuki are quite aware that you guys want a sequel. Making demands also isn't going to help. You could very easily get the message across in a much more positive manner. Another thing to note:

Team Yu focuses on this very specific goal of liberating the Shenmue license
Who said it needs to be liberated? I honestly don't know but did Yu Suzuki ever say that Sega won't let him use the Shenmue license? I very much doubt that Sega would prevent Yu Suzuki of all people to create a game in the Shenmue franchise if he could provide the funding for the game himself. As far as I know he still has some sort of role as advisor at the company. So by tweeting #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense, are you really helping?

With your help we can channel the frustration that we all feel into a persistent public demonstration
Yeah, "channeling frustration" isn't what you want to do here. A #PleaseMakeShenmue3 would leave a much more positive impression, and it wouldn't make your message any weaker.

Last year, Suzuki gave a interview where he said, ""Shenmue's license is an IP that belongs to SEGA... We can obtain the license from SEGA.""

To me, what he was trying to say is, "if i got the money to the game, SEGA is okay with me making the game". For some reason i don't know, people assumed that SEGA was holding back the dude. Which makes no sense to me, because SEGA and him worked together to create the Virtua Fighter and Shenmue social game. But they started this campaign.

Anyway, people are free to express their feelings, i just think this will lead to nothing. It is very clear that the problem with Shenmue 3 is the money, not license or whatever.

    Shenmue......?

Oh you mean "The adventures of stiff guy"? Ya that what we used to call it much better name I bet it would have sold better if it was called that on the box.

I don't use twitter or any of that facebook junk either...So cant/.

Good point, I hadn't even though of the social game, which indeed shows Yu doesn't have a problem getting the license from Sega. As far as I can tell, the recent news about Yu Suzuki talking with Mark Cerny shows that Yu is looking for a way to fund the game. If he can fund it, I'm sure Sega would make a deal like they did with Bayonetta 2. They simply ask royalties for Yu Suzuki and whoever's funding it to use the Shenmue IP, and other than that they don't get involved.

It's a good thing to show interest in Shenmue 3, I can only applaud that initiative, but this campaign feels very much targeted against Sega for no good reason.

    Exclamation Tweetathon today!

Today, May 3rd, is Shenmue's Tweetathon blaster!

Enough with begging and pleading all nicey-nice, something that hasn't worked.

    Twelve years!

A change of tack was long overdue, and the fact that the Tweetathon keeps getting bigger proves it's an approach that's capturing the imaginations of fans who are all out of patience.

    Get stuck in!

But that's their idea. They are not trying to work with SEGA, they wants to bash SEGA. I saw one of the leaders of this campaign saying that, their idea is to make this tag trend on twitter, because with this people will see what is about and then this will "ruin the reputation of SEGA, to the point where they will have to do something about".

Which also makes no sense to me because...let's face the true, every year something bad happens and the reputation of SEGA goes down. The Aliens controversy, Sonic 2006, the Youtube polemic, the delay of Anarchy Reigns, etc etc...I mean, they are acting like if SEGA is holding a children as hostage, even if they achieve what they want and every month the thing starts to trend, what they think it's gonna happen? A legion of people in the street with flames trying to burn down SEGA ?

They complain about SEGA "keeping silent about Shenmue", what they want? The only thing that SEGA can do is go out and say, "look folks, Shenmue is an expensive game, it is a risk project, already failed two times, we don't know if it is worthy a third".

And this is not gonna happen, but let's say that SEGA really gives the license to Yu Suzuki, what he is gonna do? A kickstart? How much money he can achieve with this? Or search a new publisher? "Hey Activision, i am Yu Suzuki, good morning, i have Shenmue here, would you please give some millions so i can make the game?"

Anyway, like i said, if they want, they can keep this up, but it is not gonna work. The only way i can see it is a book with the ending of Shenmue and that's all. Unfortunately. In a perfect world, Shenmue it is a game that comes every year and sells 10 millions of copies. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and Shenmue is a cult game.
