Im running the fastest DSL that i can get in my area, which is 3mbps. On cable, i still have 3mbps. So my connection tends to stay rather stable on pc and xbox.

Well, if you are the one paying for the internet, then your provider should have told you the speeds that they offer. Just ask whoever is paying for it, or call your provider. But if its the fastest one, then is probably 3mbps.

I have the standard SBC Yahoo package. It's promised to be up to a 1.5 mbps. Of course unless you live in the middle of a major city you aren't going to get that. Mine averages out at about 280-290 KBPS while on my PC with a data transfer rate of about 40 kbps. I think it's higher with the Xbox, as I plug my DSL modem directly into it when I'm online. When you are on the PC there are all types of things that eat up connection speed. I think my connection speed while on Xbox is somewhere around 340 KBPS up and down. And for most games that is more than sufficient to play. Except for Star Wars Battlefront, it's so damn fun, but I can't play in a game with more than three other oppenents. Even then there's considerable lag, but then I've also heard this is a problem for people even with signifigantly faster connections as well.

I'm fine for joining games, but I wouldn't reccommend hosting games at what my speed is.
