Do you want this series to continue or NOT?
That question is rhetorical, because if you're here you clearly like the series and want more of it.
I'm proposing a simple idea that I have proposed a few times in the past. WRITE A LETTER TO SEGA.
Just one, per fan, or friend of fan or whomever.
I think people are content to sit back and post on Twitter or Facebook because it's instantaneous. They want to say something(much like I do now), they say it and they feel like they've done something. In some ways they have, but it only carries so much weight. Mailing in a letter means more to Sega than just spamming their Twitter feed or Facebook. In another thread I just read and replied to, there is direct confirmation that spamming them like that does more harm than good.
If you like this series and you want it to continue, can't you take, what, FIVE MINUTES TOTAL out of your day and put something on paper?
It's ridiculous. I'm not trying to be mean here, but I can't believe that we're still not getting it. This is a NICHE title, and it's not doing well enough in Sega's eyes for various reasons. We have to show them that this game has enough fans to justify them continuing the series over here, whether it's in disc based or strictly digital format(preferably on both PS3 and PS4).
You can come here and complain that SEGA's "not listening" or that they "don't care" about the fans, but you can't take a few minutes and put together a meaningful method of communication? Come on now. This is it...we're the last line of defense for this series, and we're phoning it in when we should be MAILING IT IN.
I think our best option is to get organized and mail letters in around the same time. We need to get this moving as quickly as possible. The sooner the ball gets rolling, the further it can go. I'm proposing that our letters arrive on or around August 1st, 2014. That's a Friday, and it's about three weeks from now giving us all PLENTY of time to write anything from "Please bring Yakuza 5 West!" to an epic yarn telling SEGA everything from when you first played Yakuza, to what your favorite seafood is. It also gives this time to pick up some steam. It's important for us to have as many people write in as possible.
I'll call 8/1/2014 "Day of the Dragon". It sounds a little silly, but it ties in to the Japanese title.
Ideally I would hope that we can get together at least 1,000 fans. Like I said, "Niche Title". I'm trying to be realistic here. I know the series has a lot more fans than that, but if we can get around 1,000 letters from 1,000 different people to show up at or around the same time, Sega will be more likely to respond.
Look, I want this series to survive. I'm sorry if you're sick of seeing me say "let's mail in letters" but I say it because it's our most viable option. These letters arrive and they've got physical, tangible evidence that people out there want to play this game and will pay for it Day One. It will get things going again. Obviously the more letters, the better.
Are we seriously unable to get 1,000 or so fans together? Are we really content to sit and complain online instead of spending maybe $2 total for paper, envelope and a stamp?
And please, PLEASE keep "I would rather play (insert game here) first" out of this thread. PLEASE. We all want to play Kenzan in English without having to refer to some of the wonderfully done guides out there. We all want to at least try the PSP games. We all want those. Don't do that in this thread. All this community needs you to do in THIS thread is say "Ok, I'm mailing something in" and FOLLOW THROUGH.
Spread the word about this, get people involved.
When I have time this week, I'll put together a video about it. If you can get one up sooner please do so.
I saw an article on Kotaku weeks ago about how Yakuza 5 still hasn't made it out of Japan yet. If this thing picks up steam, maybe they'll post another article about THIS and what we're trying to do, getting more people involved. Maybe other gaming sites might see that and decide to post their own articles. Maybe SEGA sees that, gets our letters on 8/1, and decides not to let this series die outside Japan.
You want to help? I hope so. If you do, Sega's address is:
Sega of America
350 Rhode Island St #400
San Francisco, CA 94103
You've got plenty of time, so say whatever you want in your letter about this great series.
