Default Important notice concerning Magazine Scans

    Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to give you all a heads up regarding magazine scans and our forums.

We cannot have any magazine scans in the boards at all, this includes already released articles in text or by scan, covers, and especially pre-release or leaked coverage, and any other materials of this type. This also extends to quoting or reposting of links, any such postings could be deleted outright, removing any discussion points along with it. Basically, be smart about what you post and keep in mind that we'll be forced to remove this type of content.

We love that everyone is excited about upcoming Sonic games and SEGA titles and welcome discussion within our boards about them. If anyone has any questions about this topic, feel free to send me a PM.

    Thanks!

    I have a question.

Does it apply to expired copyright material? Like, say, Copyright 1977?

Copyright expires at least 50 years after the death of the author, 75 in some countries. I'm sure you're allowed to post most of the material that was published in the 1920s.

Ok, i got to ask, how doess posting an image from a magazine violate copyright laws? No one is being paid to post them, and a single scan is different than scanning the entire magazine, the companies aren't losing money from it, so what's the big deal?

Some people might buy a magazine for one article, and if it's published online, you don't need to buy the magazine. It can happen.
Also, when it comes to pictures, leaks could be exclusive to a single magazine, but I don't know.
I don't see the problem with magazine covers though. Maybe it has something to do with the cover artist or photographer copyright.

If I'm responding you probably did something worth responding to.

Meh. I'm all for copyright laws, but the way they've been used lately is borderline extremist.

I can understand on current issues/info, but once it's past a month or two how exactly do the rules still apply against an issue out of print?

Why has everything been so lax until now? Even after the date on which this went into effect, there was no big crackdown on things like comic scans, and there have often been a few preview pages given out per issue. Now we can't put ANY images whatsoever. Why now? What happened that got this crackdown in effect?

It's not a crackdown. We don't go on an active hunt for scans. But it's impossible for us to monitor every thread, so they don't always get noticed. If we get reports about them or if we come across them in our normal browsing, we will remove them. Not all of them will get noticed, but just because we don't notice them, it doesn't mean it's permissible to post them. Even though it's been four years, the rule is still in effect.

And you CAN post images. Just not images from magazines as noted in this thread.

Are we allowed to reference said images from a third party source?
