Iwata: No Wii or DS price cuts this year

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that the company is not likely to cut the price of its market-leading Wii and DS games consoles this year.

"Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them," said Iwata, reports Reuters.

Nintendo's fourth quarter results released this week showed the company has sold 18.6 million Wii units over the past 12 months, bringing worldwide sales to date to 24.4 million units.

Sales for the company were up 73 per cent across the fiscal year, while operating income was up 115.6 per cent and profit up 47.7 per cent.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. Usually, companies don't drop their prices until they start feeling the heat. I guess there will be no repeat of Nintendo's 2003 Kamikaze plan when they dropped the GameCube down to $99.

Haha, there is absolutely NO point in Nintendo dropping the Wii's price. Nintendo can't keep the shelves stocked for more then an hour.

The Wii will beat 360 as the longest console to hold it's launch price.

I just wish they'd consider dropping the price of their games.

Don't care about the Wii since I already have one, but the DS is overpriced.

Its hinges are very prone to cracks, mine did the same. You have to hold it open now.
