Weren't Virtua Fighter 3 and Virtua Fighter 4 the least popular of all the main fighters when they came out(worldwide)? Sega should be worried about the dwindling popularity of Virtua Fighter but I don't think trying to be more like Tekken,Soul Calibur, or Dead or Alive is a good answer.Originally Posted by ShàrkySN

When Virtua Fighter was really popular in Japan it wasn't responding to expectations from hardcore fans and certainly not what other fighting games were doing. It was showing players what a 3D fighting game could be. It is easy to view Virtua Fighter 5 as the least different from it previous versions in the series. The series has already achieved practically all of what it strives for so it's difficult to impress people now. The good news is VF5 is still popular in the arcades(where it makes most of its money).
One of the reasons a lot of people don't like the quality of VF is when you make a mistake it's not the games fault it's the players fault. In a 1 on 1 game players sometimes take this personal. In a game of Halo or Smash brothers with lots of competitors those types of players don't let it get to them. Virtua Fighter should focus on finding everyone who naturally finds VF qualities appealing.Originally Posted by ShàrkySN
To do this they should:
1. Continue gaining a good reputation as having a fast online mode(compare with other fighting games). In the future everywhere but Japan fighting games will need to have online. It's reputation will help it convince players who avoided VF because it had too few players.
2. Release a Virtua Fighter on Wii addition to the PS360 versions. The Wii currently has 47% of the videogame market and is increasing rapidly. By the end of this console generation a (large?) majority of consoles owners won't have played any game that was released on PS360 only. Think about what that means. While other series are making a name on all consoles, PS360 only games would be becoming relatively obscure(this is especially relevant for games that aren't among the best sellers in their genres like VF because if it is behind all the other major fighting games in sales on PS360 it will be worse off than being behind all other major fighting games on PS2 because there is less people to support the series).
Virtua Fighter has a unique opportunity here. The wiimote/nunchuck combo has 3 usable buttons when playing with the D-pad. That's the perfect amount for Virtua Fighter but not enough for other fighting games which will need to have the classic controller required. This could limit sales for other fighting games.
Edit: They wouldn't even be a need for a nunchuck to play game on the Wii since you could hold the Wiimote sideways and still have 3 buttons
Not only that but having the 3 buttons each correspond to a different finger is better(more like the arcade version) for virtua fighter than a using your right thumb to cover the diamond shaped button layout on PS360 controllers because if you have press K+G you don't have to take your thumb off the controller or map it to a different button.
Edit: This could make Virtua Fighter viewed as more accessible than other major fighting games without changing anything about the game. There was a time when Virtua Fighter was seen as more approachable than Street Fighter because it had only 3 buttons. Think about who buys additional controllers in order to play fighting games? Dedicated fans. While Virtua Fighter 4 did convince some Tekken fans to buy it, it was most likely people who are will to buy multiple fighting games and people who like Tekken for what it has in common with Virtua Fighter. The more Tekken/DOA/Soul Calibur fans they attempt to reach the harder it will get because then they have to reach people who like those games for much more specific qualities.
I don't think flashier presentation will be enough because it would not be good enough to merely be equal in flashyness to other games because of series' loyalty. Getting NEW people to play Virtua Fighter is a better idea because the supply of them is limitless. On PS3 and XBOX360 its challenging because new people are influenced by what their friends play. Of course it's still worth trying but it's an uphill battle. On Wii there people are still influenced by friends but if they are interested in a fighting game with a large movelist there is no alternative.
On the original thread topic:
I don't have pictures but I don't have any reason to lie. I have:
Virtua Fighter PC
Virtua Fighter 2 PC
Virtua Fighter 3tb for Dreamcast
Also
Virtua Fighter 2 (virtual console genesis)
Virtua Fighter Round 1 (anime)
Virtua Fighter Round 2 (anime)
Virtua Quest for Gamecube
I don't have a Saturn, PS2, PS3,or Xbox360 if I did I would have the Virtua Fighter games for them. If I bought a Xbox360 or a PS3 in the future when the price comes down VF5 might be the only game I buy.
There's no way Wii could handle VF5. VF5 has some of the best graphics out there period. Wii could not reproduce them with quality..
I think it is pwnsome. I played the old Virtua Fighters when I was little, but I thought they were boring because they seemed so slow. Once you play the game a while, you grow to love it. :POriginally Posted by BuNNyPUNK_654
I don't see that would be relevent. On the Wii it would be competing against other Wii games for attention such as Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Castlevania: Judgement. There's no reason AM2 couldn't match or exceed other developers graphics on the Wii.Originally Posted by gernburgs
And it's not like fans of fighting games stop playing specific games because their graphics become outdated. For example when Capcom vs SNK 2 came out it replaced Capcom vs SNK 1 at tournaments but Capcom vs SNK 2 has been out way longer than the gap between CVS and CVS2 and it hasn't been retired from tournaments due to outdated graphics.
Graphics ability to impress people is relative to what they are expecting to see. On the PS3 or XBOX 360 it could hurt VF5 to have graphics that are noticeably worse other fighting games. If it was on Wii it wouldn't matter what the graphics of Tekken 6 on PS3 look like because on a small percentage of console owners own multiple consoles. Even for people that do own multiple consoles Sega wouldn't be losing anything by putting the game on the Wii because they wouldn't have to cancel the PS3 version for the Wii version to exist.
Hori fighting stick exists for Wii should you need one..
I bought PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 solely for virtua fighter.
The pic shows SOME of the stuff I have bought for VF. A number of other items like more joysticks is not showing.

PS2 is not in the pic cause its currently on loan to my friend.
But, it is no big news that there are hardcore fans out there. It just doesnt matter.
EDIT: I forgot to mention Dreamcast, its arcade stick and VF3tb.
I am glad this came to xbox 360 i hate playstation controllers they are horrible. So if it never i would have had to buy a ps 3 and i would not be happy if i had to do that. i am happy with xbox and wii. sega i know you do most of the time but please do it all of the time. i mean put all games you put on ps3 put them on xbox 360 to please. But yeah Virtua fighter 5 is an amazing game i brought it on the day of the xbox 360 relaese
