All versions of PSU (PS2/PC, 360, rumored: PSP) have a $10 subscription fee to play online. So it does cost to play PSU online, and there are no free versions known of. It is available to play offline. In order to play PSU(PC) offline, however, it does require an internet connection because of the hacking shield program.

Things to know:
The PC and PS2 version shares a server, one is compatable with the other, you can use your PC Guardians Log-in on the PS2 and vice-versa.

The XBox 360 version is the only version at the time being that is mic compatable. It has its own server due to 1) The mic and 2) XBox 360 Marketplace.
