If I have to be brutally honest, I never really thrilled to any of Sonic's voices. I think Junichi Kanemaru is the best, more often than not though.

I like Jason's voice better since Unleashed. I never really cared that much about the voices (but I always have a problem with cheesy lines (not just in sonic idk i guess its a pet peeve or something (doesnt that even count as a pet peeve (lol parentheses abuse))))
In Unleashed I really couldnt even tell that Sonic had a different voice. I'm pretty sure Sega had the voice directors put more quality into the recording in whatever studio that they record the voices in.

Pretty much all the voices are improving. Knuckles, Tails (i thought he sounded more like a boy in 06) Rouge (her voice seldom dips to a Baritone now (although I am probably one of the few who like her new voice (it gave her more of a personality imo and I thought her old voice was too generic)))
If you want to count vector being replaced by Knuckles' current VA as an improvement (although I got kind of attached to his 2nd voice RIP "Computer Room" *moment of silence* (I drank a ton of coke today))

It makes sense because they were just dubbing a 4kids anime. They were just doing their job and they were used to voicing the other animes on 4kids. Then they were signed on to be the new official Sonic VAs and got a promotion to do what they do for a living, voice acting.

Now besides the fact that they improved from the first episode of sonic x to the final since they got used to voicing those characters over and over, they probably get a better feel of what their characters personalities are like.

Once they were dubbing the games, critics and fans hated the voices because they didnt like the change or the new voices in general. Most studios where they record the voices have a person or a couple people who direct the actors in how they should say their lines. I'm guessing that it was passable before but as a gaming company Sega isnt oblivious to what the critics or fans say (which i think is actually one of their problems imo but thats a different story) so they probably put more focus on improving the voices (although not that much.)

That also would explain why on games with a higher budget/production team/ etc have slightly better voice acting than in some spin off games and the Rival series < imo

Now I also think that if I was one of those VA I'm pretty sure I'd get the idea that I'm probably involved in something bigger than just a tv show since im now voicing an icon (this applies to any of the characters) thats in a video game franchise that's worldwide and affects millions by now.

Also if I was just a 4kids voice actor, I wouldnt be some big shot celebrity but I would still be famous, so I'm sure they would do a web search of their name at some point in their life and stumble upon.. Wow I can only imagine if I just discovered hundreds and thousands of forums and websites and youtube videos that criticized me
Anyway I'd probably get the point and Im sure most of the VA are aware of it. (Come on. You know if you were famous the thought of googling yourself to see what people would think would cross your mind at least once)

Now Sonic Unleashed was supposed to be this "We are going to push Sonic beyond the limits and finally have a comeback." And despite what some say. Yeah.. I'd say it was a giant step in the right direction and now I can't wait to see how they would top it.
Because they were trying to move Sonic into a different direction and try to end most of the things that he was criticized of before I wouldn't doubt they took VA into account which is somehow one of the biggest problems to people.

In Unleashed Sonic sounded great to me. I dont know how to describe it but it just somehow worked. They all sounded great (except for one occurrence where Chip talks about how "I've been here for.... Thanks to you Sonic") sounded awkward because those 3 sentences sound like Chip didnt breath in between the sentences and each one has a different inflection. I think the first one sounded like a question. That probably had to do with editing though. Maybe one of his lines were removed.

Knuckles wasn't in Unleashed but I'm sure his VA is improving anyway since he managed to do all those voices in Unleashed he definitely has the vocal range to stray away from sounding like Yugioh. Like I said before, I wouldnt be surprised if he stumbled upon something on the internet like, "OMG I HATE KNUX VOICE CUZ ITS YUGIO MAKE IT STOP" and took it into consideration.

Wow I cant believe I wrote all this but I'm kind of glad to get it off my chest. I guess I have a sympathy for them since I kind of want to do VA as a side job or something later in life.

Haha maybe I'll be the new voice of the next new character. At least that way if I do s$ck at it, you can now all criticize how much you hate it in person
