Weapon inventory in wii?

Hi!! I'm a n00bie so please be nice =P

Anyway I recently cashed enough to buy the basic shotgun (yes I suck at games) and I remember right after that, I was able to use the basic pistol as well by pressing 1 or 2 to switch weapons.
However tonight when I tried, I wasn't able to switch weapons. I was only able to select the weapon on startup for the chapter.

Is there something I have to do to select the weapons I want in my inventory before I actually press on the start game button on the wii version?

Your post was a little hard to follow, but hopefully I've understood what you're trying to say.

On the weapon select screen (where you can choose to have a second player join, or go to the gun shop), each side of the screen has two slots for weapons. If you just have a weapon in one slot, you can't change weapons since you'll only have the one to use. You have to click on the arrows either side of the empty slot to add a second weapon to take into the level with you.
